Saw Ant-Man today. Here are my thoughts:

BUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYBUCKYand also something about ants IDK

No, but seriously, that was the post-credits scene I badly needed at the end of Age of Ultron, and I made a very loud and embarrassing noise in the movie theater when it started.

APART FROM THAT THOUGH

My expectations were super low, so it was pretty easy to exceed them. I enjoyed it much the way I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy -- it was a lot of fun to watch, and embraced the absurdity of its premise, but I have zero feels about any of the characters so I doubt I'll ever bother re-watching it. Michael Pena was a joy and a delight, and Paul Rudd was his usual likeable self. I wanted to like Hope more than I did, but that's mostly because I don't give a flying fuck about daddy issues (though hers were certainly justified, because Hank Pym is a bag of dicks). Hank Pym was less of a douchenozzle than expected, though not by much. I gave zero fucks about the villain. Cassie Lang is adorable.

I've been actively avoiding tumblr all week to dodge spoilers, so though I WAS spoiled for Falcon's appearance, I thought it was only a cameo. But his scene was AMAZEBALLS and I love Sam Wilson so freaking much, guys, can Anthony Mackie be in all of the things? Peggy apparently was still super hot in 1989; Howard Stark less so.

I will give the movie props for its diversity in secondary characters, although I feel like I'm setting the bar pretty low. Still, more POCs than is usual for a Marvel movie, although none in leading roles. And it's a tiny thing, but I love that the affluent family in the lovely big home with the pool that Ant-Man and Yellow Jacket crashed into was African-American. Like, you just don't SEE non-white extras in those kinds of background roles very often, and probably most people wouldn't notice, but I did and I thought it was great.

Also, going into it I was just as annoyed as everyone else at the fridging of Janet Van Dyne, but this movie actually gave me hope, since they went out of their way to point out that YOU CAN COME BACK from the trippy alternate dimension of submolecular whateverness, and that time has no meaning there (i.e. she could remain unaging), AND deliberately didn't show her face in the flashback or in the family photos so clearly they're at least holding out the possibility of casting that role properly in the future. All I want is the Wasp in a proper role in a movie, guys. And there's still hope!

The first post-credits scene - when Hope said "It's about damn time," I shouted back "IS WHAT I'M SAYING" and most of the rest of the theater agreed as well. She speaks for all of us. I am clinging to hope.

ALSO I AM CLINGING TO BUCKY BARNES OMG OMG I WAS NOT SPOILED FOR THAT AND ALTHOUGH I HAD HOPED I DID NOT ACTUALLY EXPECT IT AND UGGGGHHHHHH I NEED CIVIL WAR RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.

My kids saw it but they did not explain the teaser very well… it had Bucky, Sam and Steve? Please tell us more!!!! I want to be spoiled for this! I wonder if it's shown up on Youtube yet.

I thought for sure she'd come back from the microverse when Scott did, but no. (I was literally holding my breath.)
