Smackdown between kaydee's inner X-Men geek and theater nut will commence at 8 o'clock. Bring popcorn.

Why the Tonys Kick So Much Ass

1. Hugh Jackman singing.
2. Matthew Broderick referring to himself as a big geek.
3. The new Tony-winning composer and lyricist (of the musical Hairspray) announcing their love for each other and kissing passionately onstage. (They're both men, btw.)

Dude. I think I just heard the CBS execs having heart attacks over that last one. Gay men kissing in front of millions of viewers. Gooooood times. ::happy sigh for big gay theater geeks:: Now let's get THIS at the Oscars!

What right does that perky little bubblegum bitch have to win over BERNADETTE FUCKING PETERS?! Dude. I saw this production of Gypsy. I saw Bernadette Peters as Rose. THAT was a performance. It was powerful and staggering and heartwrenching and real. This cute little moron? Is NOT a Tony-deserving actress.

Gross injustices aside, not a bad show. This Tony Awards will forever be remembered by me as the Big Gay Tonys. Big Gay Highlights include:

-The aforementioned gay couple snogging passionately onstage after (as part of?) their acceptance speech.

-"Take Me Out" (about a gay baseball player who comes out to his teammates) winning Best Play

-a man who plays a woman (Harvey Fierstein, in Hairspray) winning Best Actor in a Musical

-said drag queen, during his acceptance speech, expressing his desire to have the children of everyone involved with Hairspray

-Alan Cumming and Hugh Jackman being sexy (yes, this counts. Because I said so)

-I'm sure I missed a few others

There definitely needs to be Broadway slash. Exhibitionism, MPreg...
