what's next?
Jun. 17th, 2013 03:10 amAaaand it's my birthday. I decided to see it in properly at midnight by watching "The Shawshank Redemption" and eating some white chocolate chip-butterscotch cookies that I baked Saturday night. Today I've conned the parents into taking me out to see Whedon's "Much Ado" (for my second viewing, because yes, it's really that awesome and I need to type up a proper reaction post at some point). I will also be doing laundry, because I'm just a rockin' birthday gal like that.
(I don't really do birthdays, FYI. At least I'm not in tech this year.)
So, yeah, that happened. Woot. This past year...definitely had its ups and downs, but I think I ended on a net positive, and I'm way happier (for whatever definition of "happy") now than I was a year ago, so, yes, I'll count 27 as a tentative win. Here's hoping 28 continues to improve. My early-to-mid twenties were really shitty, so I'm kind of aiming toward my thirties in the hopes that it really does get better.

Dearest fandom, today is my birthday. And I shall celebrate by being in tech at the theater for at least twelve hours straight. \o/?
In tech for Xanadu, no less. The theatre snob in me cringes every time I tell anyone that, but in perfect honesty, I have to admit that this show is a lot more fun (and funnier!) than I was expecting. It's still flash and trash musical comedy, yes, but secretly, I am enjoying it. Still. TECH. >_<
I'm so glad to be working in theatre full-time, though, you have no idea. Even though I'm completely disconnected from the outside world and have lost all sense of, say, what "weekends" are, because weekends are days I work just as long (if not longer) than weekdays. I'm working roughly 60-70 hours a week at the moment. Being in rehearsal for three shows in rep at once is no joke. But tomorrow is my day off, so I shall sleep late and maybe take a walk by the lake or see a movie or something, and try to get closer to finishing the X-Men Reversebang. So that will be good.
Speaking of XMRB, I've been participating in a few of the chats, and that's been surprisingly fun! I mean, I'm not really a chatty person -- almost never chat with anyone online at all. It's too distracting for me; I feel like I have to pay too much attention to holding up my end of the conversation even if I don't have anything in particular to say, and that stresses me out. But the XMRB chats have been very friendly, and there are enough other people involved that I don't feel pressured to Be Interesting And Talkative At All Times, so it's been nice. And strangely productive for my fic. I'll miss those once the challenge is done.
Shit, it's almost 8:20am, I need to get my ass to the theater. Happy birthday to me!

Oh my gosh, guys, my Big Gay NPO coworkers brought me cake! With my NAME on it! I was right that my boss fails at birthdays, but the other people on my team remembered. And also with the embarrassing singing at the front desk in our lobby, but fortunately no random guests were coming through at the time.
Birthday: REDEEMED! My face looks like this: :D

she says i need not to need
Jun. 17th, 2011 09:33 amSo it's my birthday today. And to celebrate, I am working 14 straight hours with one break for lunch and another "break" to walk from Big Gay NPO to the theater and then set up understudy rehearsal. And I estimate a 99.5% likelihood that no coworkers from either job will provide me with cake. :( I think after work on Monday I'll go see X-Men again and then bake MYSELF a damn cake, because birthdays without cake are kind of tragic. So it will be my own private three-days-late birthday celebration.
I had also totally intended to post a fic today, because comments on fics(/vids) are the best birthday (or anytime!) presents EVER. And then, y'know, the X-Men fandom unexpectedly reared back up again and ate my soul, so I failed to actually finish the Doctor Who fic I've been working on. Operation Birthday: FAIL on all counts, really. But I'm currently working on another X-Men kinkmeme fill, which hopefully I will finish this weekend. So that will be another belated birthday present to myself, I guess.
Really, given how crap I am at remembering other people's birthdays, it's only fair that I should fail at my own as well. Meh.

GUYS.
fiercynn wrote me a Band of Brothers/History Boys crossover fic. And it is AMAZING, oh my goodness, Scripps and Nixon and Hagenau and asdfkjlhaskdhfel. I know that the cross-section of People Who Know BoB and People Who Know History Boys makes all of, like, two other people who might read this (
newredshoes, I am looking at you), but they SO SHOULD. RIGHT NOW.
Hell, even if you're only familiar with one of the source fandoms, you should read it. Because it is amazing. Not for Time's throwing, by
fiercynn. Check it out.
Best birthday present EVER, seriously. :D

Is 22 a lame age or what? I mean, after 21, really, it's all just sorta downhill. Until you start hitting the decade milestones, of course.
Er, happy birthday to me, I suppose. Will hang out with a few friends tonight, but that's about it. That's okay, though. Birthdays seem to get less and less important after a while, and it doesn't really bother me. (Yes, because I am so old and wise these days. Right.)
I wanted to have a fic to post or something, but I haven't been making much progress on any of my WIPs lately. Relaxing has been a major theme of this week. It helps that I'm only working one part-time job at the moment. Hopefully that will change by the end of the summer, but for now, it feels lovely.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
airgiodslv! *squishes* I hope the people at that theater of yours are treating you properly!
In other news, holy shit, my play opens in a week. Hence the utter lack of lj-ness over here of late. Well, I still check my f-list compulsively, but not so much with the posting myself, because I figure, how many posts flailing about OMG MY SHOW OPENS SOON do you guys really need to see?
*flails*
Once we do a photo shoot of some sort (eep I should get on that), I totally will be spamming you all, though.

from the library computer...
Jun. 17th, 2005 02:22 pmHI I AM TWENTY NOW.
Which is not particularly old, and a rather uninteresting age to be except for the fact that I am no longer a teenager. But, y'know, it worries me. If I'm allowed to be some kind of grownup, then...then...damn, they really let anyone become an adult, don't they? Shouldn't there be some sort of exam we have to pass first, to prove that we are capable of thinking like grownups and doing grownup things like paying rent and buying groceries and holding real jobs? Because as far as I can tell, I'm still about fifteen, and sooner or later They will find me out.
But! Birthday! Which means presents! Theoretically! In packages in the mail! From relatives in other states!

Jun. 5th, 2005 04:29 pmHappy slightly belated birthdays to
funkyreunion and
lekilitook! Hope they were fantabulous.
Swiftly approaching B.A. breakdown. Met with prof, who told me to just focus on a close analysis of the book and its stage adaptations, which I really wish I'd known to do from the beginning, because now I've got 13 pages of a dubious draft with plenty of stuff but unknown quantity salvageable, and for some reason, I'm completely at a loss as to where or how to begin my analysis. Not having eaten in 14 hours does not help. This is due in 16 hours. Technically, I can do this, but I have no idea how to start. Argh.
At least I got an extension on one of my other finals, which was also due tomorrow, which would not have happened. So I don't need to worry about anything else until B.A. done.

I am heinously bad about birthdays this month. My apologies. But operating on the principle that it isn't too late if it's still within the week...
Happy [belated] birthdays to
reishin,
girloftheq, and
uluviel! I hope you all got exactly what you wanted, plus extra pr0n on the side.
AND
Happy [actual!] birthday,
eleanor_lavish and
shira! Hope it's thoroughly splendiferous!
I've also been horrid about responding to comments (or posting comments, for that matter) lately, for a variety of reasons. I love you all, and I promise to stop being such a flake about these things.

Gah! Why am I so bad about remembering birthdays for my RL friends?
Happy ridiculously belated birthday,
lush_rimbaud! The person who got me into fandom, and even though we've gone down very different paths since, I hope your day was splendiferous and sparkly.
And, not late,
Happy birthday,
gabbyhope! I hope it's fantastic!

Apr. 4th, 2005 04:04 pmHave been remiss in birthdays of late. Alas! So...
Happy birthday,
sophrosyne31! Well, it's still your b-day in my time zone, anyway. *sends porny vibes & hugs*
and
Happy belated birthdays,
ldmoonflower and
fiercynn! Hope they were respectively splendiferous!
In ficcish news, oh crap. I really need to start working on my Lotrips Remix fic, don't I? I know what fic I'm remixing, and a vague notion of what I'm doing with it, but...crap, crap, running out of time. And what with the show what I'm directing, plus three very reading-heavy classes, I don't have much free time, period. But I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. It always does.

Wow, the last few weeks have been boring for me. I hope you all have me filtered off your daily flist, because there's absolutely nothing of interest in this here LJ. My apologies.
I want spring break to come already, dammit.

Happy Birthday,
monkeycrackmary! Because it's still the 6th in the US, and therefore you should still be having a splendiferously birthdayish day!
In other news, ( dream musing, cut for probably not being of much interest to anyone else )

In other news, everyone must go see Hotel Rwanda. Now. It's the Schindler's List of Rwanda, only more so, because we've all learned about the Holocaust but most of us know next to nothing about the Rwandan genocide. You will cry, and you (okay, or maybe just me) will feel vaguely ashamed of the West for not having done shit. And then you will cry some more. And curse the Academy for nominating The Aviator instead of this, those idiots.
Meanwhile, I have a 5-7 page paper due tomorrow. I have not yet started; I didn't receive the paper topic until Friday. Argh.

birthdays...
Jan. 8th, 2005 02:17 pmI completely forgot about birthdays for the entire month of December. But new year, new time to do stuff like check the bday list, etc.
Happy Birthday,
sheldrake and Happy Slightly Belated Birthday,
westmoon! Hope the days have been thoroughly splendid for the both of you!
In other news, the afternoon stretches before me. Shall I go to the Film Studies Center and watch Showboat for my musical theater class, or just play Sims 2 all day?
...there never really was a choice, was there? *loads Sims 2*
And in theater-type stuff, didn't get into either of the big shows, but I did get into a workshop. Which is...a bit disappointing, but will probably work out for the best, since I have a heavy courseload this quarter and several things to apply for, and a lighter time commitment theater-wise should keep me a little saner. Ah, well.

First off, Happy Birthday,
strawberryelfsp! Hope it's splendiferous and Geoff-filled!
Second off, Dave's mother is picking us up in two short hours. Meep. Thanksgiving with the boyfriend's extended family, what an unstressful long weekend this shall be. Right.
At least I go bearing Snickerdoodles (which have been sampled and approved by at least half my dorm by now).
