kaydeefalls: pippin with leaf pin in mouth, text "one by one my leaves fall, one by one my tales are told" (one by one)
So I just spent my entire day in bed watching all of LotR in one sitting, after having spent the past week or so since seeing The Hobbit gradually rewatching all of the special features.

I REGRET NOTHING.

Seriously, though, now I remember why I was so thoroughly obsessed with those films and that fandom for so long. I mean, not that I'd forgotten, but still. Hadn't done a full rewatch in years -- not since college, I think -- and I don't think I ever did it all in one sitting even then. UGH HOW ARE THEY SO PERFECT. Intense feelings for twelve hours straight, right there. And goddamnit, the Grey Havens still make me tear up automatically. All the hobbits get teary all at once, I get teary. Then Frodo fucking smiles at them from the boat, and bam, cue gross sobbing. OH MY BOYS. I STILL LOVE YOU SO.

The problem, of course, is that all my favorite LotR fics from way back in the day were hosted on individual websites, all of which seem to have vanished off the face of the internet. I am seriously jonesing for some old-school Dom/Elijah or Merry/Pippin, guys, why did we not have AO3 back then and where have all those old fics gone?

See, this is why I've uploaded everything to AO3, even the shit I would prefer people not associate with my name. Because even the embarrassing stuff might have been something someone else really enjoyed and would like to revisit, and that's cool. I vividly remember that a couple of my onetime favorites really weren't all that well-written, but I don't fucking care, I want to reread Buffett's Surfing series goddamnit and it's GONE. (Seriously. The Wayback Machine captured like one or two chapters of it, but that's it. I looked.)

I do know that both LotR FPS and RPS fandoms are still chugging quietly along, and I'll browse through any more recent good stuff I can find, but man, I really wanted to have a good reread of the fandom classics, and they are (for the most part) nowhere to be found. Damnit.

Hobbitses!

Shit, I totally lost track of fandoms there -- The Hobbit comes out this week! And...I have no particularly fannish friends in NYC to see it with yet. Which is weird, because this being my hometown, I actually do have sufficient friends here -- but while many of them are geeky, none of them are first-midnight-showing-of-The-Hobbit geeky, as far as I know. So, um. Any New Yorkers out there want to meet up for a midnight showing? Or some other time opening weekend, it's cool, I don't need to do the midnight thing for this one. I am very friendly and good for geeking out at midnight showings with -- fannish friends from DC and Chicago can attest to this. :D? :D?

DO WANT.

HOBBIT TRAILER.

YES PLEASE.

(And I'm making actual progress on Yuletide, thank fucking god. Should really go to bed, but if I can push through and finish the damn thing tonight, it might be worth the sleep deprivation at work tomorrow...)

PETER JACKSON BACK ONBOARD HOBBIT MOVIE FOR REAL.

Granted, as executive producer, not director, BUT STILL.

Somewhere in my apartment complex, someone is watching RotK. It's faint, but I would recognize that music anywhere. They're right about the point where Gollum jumps Sam and Frodo on Mount Doom. *is geek*

...damn, now I want to rewatch it.

Next up: Tolkien final, due 5pm tomorrow. Need to finish fic, then write 5-7 page paper explaining why my story has "depth" and its relationship to Tolkien's "majestic whole." Well, the fic part should be fun, at least, although no one reads it except me. :)

First, though, I believe I shall watch the last disk of LotR, to put me in a properly hobbity sort of mood...

Screw "May It Be" and "Into the West"*. This is still THE Frodo/Sam song for me. And I'm still waiting for a fanvid to be made with it.

*Of course, "Into the West" is still THE Grey Havens song. But that's besides the point.

OMG RotK:EE wasn't supposed to get here until Friday but amazon.com ROCKS and it came TODAY! Liek! *is squeeful*

Of course, since I thought it wouldn't get here until the end of the week, my mom and I started slowly going through the triology in order, one disk a night. We finished FotR last night and were planning on starting TTT tonight. I will respect that. I will. I haven't ever just watched the movies in their proper order, so I will not watch RotK until we finish TTT.

But I might have to watch some of the appendices today. Cameras in Middle Earth. Stuff like that.

And maybe a couple of the new scenes.

But I will not watch the whole movie through until my mom and I get to it. Yes. *is virtuous*

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] lekilitook, I got your card! Yay!

Oh. Yeah. So THAT'S why I've been obsessed with these movies for almost three years.

Liek OMG WTF squeeeeeeeeeeee!

Dammit, even after all this time, listening to the LotR soundtrack still gets me all emotional. No. Must not watch movies again until RotK:EE comes out.

Is it December 14 yet?

I have a sudden, fierce, inexplicable craving for Faramir/Eowyn. Hold on a sec.

*rereads "The Steward and the King" chapter of RotK*

Ahhhhh. Much better. Now I want to see it in the movie, because lo, they are both exceedingly pretty, and should hook up onscreen.

*waits impatiently for RotK:EE*
kaydeefalls: sam holding frodo's hand (my sympathies)
RotK viewing #2 even better.

Came out of movie theater craving RotK Merry/Pippin and old school Domlijah BADLY. We wants it, we does! (Look for it tomorrow when we're awake, we will!)

I think I finally understand why, in spite of being a fervent Frodo/Sam shipper, I've never really been interested in reading or writing Frodo/Sam fics. Seeing RotK onscreen again clinched it for me. I don't want any fanfics -- the source material is more powerful, pure, and beautiful than anything else I could read or write.

<3 Frodo/Sam. Now, off for some nice, angsty, not-too-sappy Merry/Pippin... (Oh, wait. It doesn't exist. My bad.)*

*I'm fairly sure it DOES exist somewhere, but at the moment, am too tired to be arsed to think of any examples. :)

I have seen RotK.

RotK SPOILER WARNING )
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (feed my fancy)
Okay. I've been looking forward to RotK a lot, obviously. But lately, I've been so busy with RL and my first quarter at university and starting to grow up and such -- well, let's just say that I'm far less obsessive about these movies than I was this time last year.

That said, I just finally got around to watching the TTT:EE appendices, and something finally clicked.

Yes. Must get back into that. Have finally seen TTT:EE with [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud, and, um, like the name says -- TTT: EEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Erm, nothing new to add, since everyone else already commented about it last week, but yesyesyesyes so much better.

Wow. Less than three weeks 'til RotK. My, how time flies. (!!!) Must go reserve tix for [livejournal.com profile] trivetmonger, [livejournal.com profile] filmelder, and yours truly. Now. Quite.

And where's my Secret Slasha assignment? Everyone else seems to have gotten theirs. Hmmm.

Yes.

I just watched the RotK trailer. I had my hands clenched over my mouth to keep from squealing aloud, and for half a second there, I almost wanted to cry.

IS IT DECEMBER 17 YET?! NO? WHY THE FUCK NOT?!

In other news, I'm sitting here in my room, and I'm really really hungry. But I'm too lazy to take a shower and get dressed and go to breakfast lunch. I suck. A lot.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (so many possibilities)
There NEEDS to be a Frodo/Sam songvid using Loreena McKennitt's "Dante's Prayer."

I'm just sayin'.

I really wish I knew how to make those things.

DVDeeeeee!

Have just finished watching the One DVD.

Well, actually more like the Two DVD, since the One DVD came out last year, and it's sort of the Ghetto Two DVD because the extended version doesn't come out for another THREE MONTHS ashdfjadfhsudfhsukfkasdfhasjkf but yeah. That. I just finished watching it.

I love that movie.

I hate the RotK preview, because, like, December 17? Is not now. For fuck's sake. Argh, I say, argh!

FUCKIN' A!

Then, the week of Dec. 12, "The Two Towers" will be released, leading up to a worldwide Dec. 16 daylong marathon, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. The screenings that day will include a 3 p.m. showing of "Fellowship" followed by a 7 p.m. screening of "Two Towers" and then an 11 p.m. screening of "Return of the King," which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global release.

(from Variety, apparently)

[livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud, [livejournal.com profile] lianara, [livejournal.com profile] trivetmonger, get your asses back to NYC by the 16th, you hear me?

kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (all the colors)
Chicago: 6
The Pianist: 3
Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers: 2
Frida: 2
The Hours: 1
Adaptation: 1
Talk to Her: 1
8 Mile: 1
Road to Perdition: 1
Gangs of New York: 0
et. al.

Like I said, not too shabby. Although I was really hoping Pianist or Gangs might beat out Chicago for the Big One.

Now to finish my bazillion hours of homework.

TTT just took Best Visual Effects.

HOBBIT SIGHTING! Sean Astin is there! Wheeeeee!

Further bulletin as events warrant.

Edit #1: Lost Art Direction to Chicago. And, dammit, I really wanted John C. Reilly to get supporting actor. Ah, well.

Edit #2: The expression on Sean's face when they did that ring joke! ::keels over laughing:: Much love for the Sean. Oh, and, um, was that really the best TTT clip to show? Not that Gollum doesn't kick much ass, but... ah, whatever, it won't win this year anyway.

Edit #3: Lost Sound to Chicago, won Sound Effects. Not too shabby. Sean continues to be adorable. And Ed Norton continues to be hot. (Incidentally, am loving all the shots of Salma Hayek, because Norton is next to her and Astin is right behind her. ::sighs happily::)

Edit #4: Oh, Michael Moore. ::shakes head bemusedly:: Well, if you wanna make a statement...

Edit #5: HOLY SHIT. Two major upsets in ten minutes. Adrien Brody took Best Actor (woot!), and...wait for it... Eminem snagged best song. Ladies and gentlemen, that was the sound of [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud exploding with a resounding echo of squee.

Edit the Last: Chicago wins. And no one is surprised. But, hey, WOOT! Pianist took a LOT more than anyone expected! Yay, underdog! And TTT took more than The Hours and Gangs of New York combined, so...meh, not too shabby. I do weep for Gangs, though. It should've taken SOMETHING.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (much ado about nothing)
In other news, nine months 'til RotK. I'm not gonna make it.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud, guess what this means? ::snickers::
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (kiss him!)
You know you're really someone when you get hate mail. It's so exciting! Look at what this precocious genius wrote me:

i hate ur icons!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sam and frodo are not gay u freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so quick putting crap in like that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cause that really pisses me off aight???? plus the rest of them are really crappy tooo! and almost everyone one of them has a freaken cuss word in it!!!!!!!!! so knock it off! gosh!!!! {sam and frodo were ment to be closer buddies in the movie, but not gay freaken lovers!!!!!!!!!!!!! so quick making fun of them, cause ur making me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bye stupid!

Aw, isn't she cute? ::pets obnoxious homophobe:: It especially amuses me because I've made exactly seven Sam/Frodo icons (and, look, I've made a veritable shitload of icons, so this is practically a negative percentage of my collection), and NOT ONE of them contains a single naughty word. Seriously. The rest of my icons are another story...

Dear homophobic teenybopper,
I respect your interpretation of the Sam/Frodo relationship. It is certainly a valid one. I personally happen to read a sexual element into their relationship. I am not mocking them. I think this is a beautiful, pure love. And so on, and so on. Learn a little tolerance, willya?
Yours in disgust,
kaydee
