stupid fic

Dublin weather continues to be abnormally lovely, so I've developed a habit of finding a sunny patch of grass on campus or in parks or whatnot and sitting down with my notebook to work on this dratted Harry/Draco fic. Which, really, is coming along ridiculously slowly, given how much time and thought I've been putting into it over the past few months. Something is just OFF, and it's not quite gelling, you know? I think the problem is that it's sort of two Harry-centric fics (one just postwar, one just H/D) that I'm trying to squish together into one. It SHOULD work as one, the way I'm writing it, because the H/D affects the postwarness affects the H/D etc, but I think my brain is still stuck in a place where there are two different fics instead of the one, and it makes writing difficult. And just splitting it into two fics doesn't really work, because the H/D loses all meaning out of context. Argh. And for fuck's sake, how can anybody write an H/D fic that ISN'T epic-length? I'm trying out the pairing just because getting the two together realistically provides an interesting challenge, but bloody hell, it's taking them FOREVER. I finally lost patience and skipped ahead to write the sex scene, but that just means I have to go back and finish filling in all the crap that has to happen before they could logically start going at each other.

Let this be a lesson to you all: do not stray far from writing your natural pairing(s) of choice, for yea, it shall drive you up a fucking wall. Why am I writing an HP fic with no Marauders? Stupid, stupid, stupid.
