Romney is apparently out of the Republican race, thank god. He creeps me out. Of course, this pretty much guarantees McCain for the nomination -- Huckabee's weirdly popular in his own special way, but I sincerely doubt he'll actually pull out on top. (Although I would not be at all surprised to see a McCain/Huckabee ticket come November.) Oh, and I guess Ron Paul is still in, but let's be serious. This is...probably the best I could hope for, out of the Republican race. McCain will be harder for a Democrat to beat -- I agree with an NY Times analysis today that says Obama stands a better chance against him than Clinton, but either way, McCain appeals to moderates and independants. But worst case scenario, I feel vastly less anxious about McCain in the White House than I would have with Romney. I disagree with him on many, many issues, but not being scary is a very big point in his favor. Also, he looks like a chipmunk, which could make the State of the Union way more entertaining.

Still, now Democrats really, really need to rally behind one candidate. I'm nervous about the protracted bickering this continuing race is producing. If Clinton wins the nomination, she will need the support of the Obama fans to take the presidency, and vice versa. This party seriously lacks solidarity right now, and I sincerely worry about pulling our shit together come the DNC in August, regardless of who ends up at the helm. And I really do think Obama would do a much better job at winning over Clinton supporters and unifying the party.

Good riddance, Mitt Romney. Don't let the door hit your ass on your way out.
