May. 14th, 2008 09:50 amSo Clinton won WV, just like we've always known she would, and she won it by a large margin, again just like we've always known she would. Good for her. But what pisses me off is the way she and the media at large are using this to point to Obama's massive weakness among blue-collar white voters. Because clearly, no Democrat who voted for Clinton could possibly vote for Obama in the general election, but that's beside the point.
Yes, Obama sure has a lot of difficulty winning over those hard-working white Americans, as indicated by his staggering victories over Clinton in Iowa, Kansas, Idaho, Colorado, and Minnesota. Because clearly it was the massive black vote in Iowa that won him THAT state, for example. (And FYI -- his wins in those states were by equal or greater percentages than Clinton's win in WV.)
But, y'know, without West Virginia's five whole electoral votes, he can't possibly win in November.
Note: this is not to disdain/disregard/insult WV in any way. Seriously. All states are important. I just don't get the narrative the media is building out of this one.
