So I've seen Sherlock Holmes twice in the past two days.
I think it's safe to say I like this movie rather a lot.
Also, probably you've heard it's a bit slashy? Yeah. More than a bit. Like, this could only be any slashier if Holmes and Watson actually made out onscreen. It's kind of ridiculous. As my friend said, no slash goggles necessary, it's just THERE.
Look, I already shipped Holmes/Watson from reading all of the short stories and novels over the course of one vacation a year and a half ago. I didn't need any more convincing. And yet, there it was. I am also more than willing to entertain Holmes/Watson/Mary as my new OT3 of AWESOME, because oh my goodness, I <3 Mary to a degree that is truly ridiculous, she would totally make all the arrangements and bash the boys' heads together until they saw how gloriously wonderful it would be to all hop into a very large bed together and dismiss the housekeeping staff for a fortnight. I would also be rather okay with Mary/Irene fic, by the by, despite the fact that they are criminally deprived of any screen time together. WE CAN WORK AROUND THIS, PEOPLE.
Um, yeah. The movie is also good for many reasons which have nothing to do with shippiness, for the record. I'm just a bit fixated at the moment. (Oddly enough, I find neither Holmes nor Watson particularly attractive in this movie. Holmes is a hot mess, but emphasis on mess, and that doesn't appeal to me personally; Jude Law is just someone I've always found very aesthetically appealing but am not attracted to at all, and that goes for the character of Watson as well. Irene and Mary, on the other hand? HELL YES.) But, y'know, other things are good as well. The plot is utterly ridiculous and fun. Lestrade is EXACTLY what I wanted his character to be from the stories, it's like they read my mind with the ESP. The cinematography is gorgeous. The dialogue is sharp and quick and often dryly hilarious -- A+++ repartee between Holmes and Watson, in particular. The soundtrack is fantastic, I need to download it like yesterday. And so forth.
Inconclusion: SEE THIS MOVIE. IT IS MADE OF WIN.
