SO MUCH WIN.

Oh, my god. I have never laughed so hard in my life. Just saw the One Man Lord of the Rings, and it was quite possibly the best 60-odd minutes I have ever spent in my life. I kind of don't have the words for how bloody brilliant and hilarious this show is. So there's this guy, Charles Ross, and he reenacts the entire LotR trilogy -- with some commentary/asides -- in a little over an hour. No props, no costumes. First off, he's an amazing impersonator -- using just his voice and slight shifts in body language, he completely nails all twelve hundred or so characters in the trilogy (his Sam and Frodo voices are particularly spot-on, likewaise Gandalf; his physicality for Legolas and Denethor in particular are fall-out-of-your-chair funny and dead accurate, and HOLY SHIT his GOLLUM). And jesus christ, best. Reenactment. EVER.

Highlights include, but are in no way limited to: best weed in the South Farthing, the burning Ent putting itself out in the flood at Isengard, Legolas's fabulous hair, Denethor's food-slurping, GOLLUM HOMG, and of course--

"I'm glad you're with me, Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things."
"...Mr. Frodo, are we gay?"

He only has one show left in DC, tomorrow, which is too bad because if I'd seen it earlier in the run, I definitely would have dragged EVERYONE I KNOW EVER to go see it. But apparently he tours this thing (as well as his one-man Star Wars trilogy, which I haven't seen but now desperately want to) all around the US and Canada. Ian McKellen saw it. Ian McKellen loved it. GANDALF WOULD NOT LIE TO YOU, THIS SHIT IS AMAZING. If he ever brings it to a city anywhere in your general vicinity, GO SEE IT.

(Being fannish about theater is always a bit problematic, because it's a lot harder to share the fandom love. But I'm trying, dammit!)
