day 2 of the month of endless blather
Oct. 3rd, 2013 10:42 pmIf nothing else, this meme is giving me an excuse to randomly use icons that I rarely give much love to. (Um, unless you're only reading me on LJ, in which case I guess you only see my very blank white default icon all the time.)
2. 20 facts about you
1. The X-Files was my very very first fandom, in terms of participating in fannish discussion/fic/etc. I started watching it at age 11 and discovered the joys of AOL chatrooms shortly thereafter, and from thence, fanfic. Mulder/Scully is still my OTP to end all others.
2. My first fic was a character study of Agent Pendrell. IDEK.
3. And in terms of "fic I wrote as a teenager" and "random gen fic about really minor characters", I am indeed the author of that RENTfic about the Squeegee Man. I still occasionally encounter people who remember that one.
4. Speaking of early fannishness, the first fictional character I ever fell in love with was George Cooper, from Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet. To this day I think a small part of why I ID as lesbian is because I will never meet a man as perfect as George.
5. My brain interprets the world primarily in terms of words/text, not images. I'm always vaguely baffled when someone complains about a movie adaptation of a book because a character or place "doesn't look like I imagined them". I literally have no mental image of any of the characters/places I read about. I don't see how that's in any way necessary to my enjoyment or understanding of the text.
6. I was born in NYC. I grew up in Greenwich Village, specifically. People tend to ask me, wide-eyed, "what was that like?" I dunno, what was it like growing up wherever you did? I thought I had a normal childhood.
7. Two of my grandparents passed away in the past two and a half years. The remaining one has very, very advanced stage Alzheimer's. (The fourth died before I was born, so whatever.) This has been a bit rough.
8. I am a professional stage manager. Very few people outside of theater seem to understand what my job entails. I still haven't come up with a good shorthand way of explaining it. So I wrote a fic about it.
9. I can solve a Rubik's cube in under two minutes. A friend in high school taught me how. It's a good party trick.
10. I'm putting together a Kate Bishop costume for Halloween, because a large group of us are going to march in the parade as non-obvious Avengers.
11. I've stage managed for the guy who created the Dementors in the Harry Potter movies.
12. Used to keep hamsters as pets all through middle and high school.
13. Weirdest experience of my life: being surrounded by actual reindeer at like 2am on June night in Sweden. So people herd reindeer in that part of the world? And in the spring, all the reindeer go off and have babies, and then in the summer, all the herders (ranchers? dunno terminology) need to figure out which new young reindeer belong to which herd, so to figure it out, they round up all the reindeer and scare the bejesus out of them by making them all run in a circle, and the mommy reindeer call to their babies and the babies go to the mothers and the herders mark them to ID them. Also? Reindeer make WEIRD fucking noises.
14. My dream trip would be to visit Japan and Korea. (But not so much the big cities.) I'm saving up for it.
15. I don't know my own blood type.
16. I bake really good cookies. Snickerdoodles are my favorites.
17. My favorite play of all time, hands down, is Tom Stoppard's Arcadia. I genuinely think it's flawless as a text, although I've seen two flawed productions of it so far.
18. I have seen more unique professional productions of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd than any other play or musical (though I think A Midsummer Night's Dream is a close second, but only because both my high school and my college did it). My favorite was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC when I was in high school, with Brian Stokes Mitchell and Christine Baranski.
19. The only male celebrity I genuinely would fuck if given half a chance is Jeremy Renner. I think it's because he reads as a very butch dyke to me. Also, ARMS.
20. I don't tend to name inanimate objects, but my external hard drive is called Mildred. Which is an in-joke about the Torchwood fic I was writing at the time when I got her. My brain is weird.
