Saw Star Wars III last night. Meh. I enjoyed it. It was better than I and II, but nowhere near the original trilogy. There were flashes of brilliance, which made me sad, because you know what? This could have been a really good movie, if Lucas had hired someone else to write the dialogue. And maybe someone else to direct. And not fucked up a certain aspect of the ending which made a certain scene in Return of the Jedi lose all its emotional impact, for fuck's sake.
Acting was pretty terrible throughout, which I blame on the writing, not the actors. Even Ewan wasn't great, although he got better as it went along. But I defy ANY actor to speak that dialogue without sounding like crap. Gah. At least there was a much higher action-to-dialogue ratio, without TOO many retch-worthy scenes a la Ep II. Alas.
So: worth seeing for closure purposes, and Hayden's not bad when he's just exuding evil and not talking. Better than the travesties that claim to be Eps I and II. But not worth seeing more than the once.
