Y'know, this is why I usually stick to my OTPs. Because when you've already spent 6600 words trying to work things up to the point where two characters (read: Harry and Draco) could conceivably fall in love or at least into bed together and you're not sure how much more there is to go but it's more than a little, then clearly, these two characters were NEVER MEANT TO BE PAIRED.

And this isn't even for a ficathon. This is just an experiment for MYSELF. An experiment which has lasted nearly eight months now and is bloody well going to be finished before book 7 comes out and fucks up my personal interpretation of what-happens-next.

Although I did just write a scene of which I'm rather fond, but still. How can this POSSIBLY be such a popular pairing, when it takes so much build-up to believably transform their relationship into anything even remotely romantic? Bah.

ps: (since I'm already spamming, why stop now?) Now that I know you're writing this, I'm *really* looking forward to reading it. :)

Heh. I'm glad someone is. And, yeah, I have read a few H/D fics that I really liked, which is why I embarked upon this experiment in the first place. It's just, the ones I can get into are all EPICS, because it really does take quite a lot to get those two believably into bed together. And I really don't want to write an epic. But I am now determined, and I will conquer this bastard. *writes determinedly, if at a glacial pace*

Dude, I'm with you. In order to GET them to a place where they might even LIKE each other, let alone fuck, you basically have to write an epic destroying either Harry's core character or Draco's.

You can do it! You can! Okay, you may not remember, but my very first HP fic was this H/D thing called Contingency (http://dorrie6.livejournal.com/117759.html) and I'll never forget the comment you left for it, because you were all like "I hate H/D but I love this" and went on about how it was totally plausible, etc. That fic is only, like, 14000 words. Which, okay, is longer than what you've got so far, but it is certainly not the length of those big multi-chaptered fics that everyone else writes. It's a totally doable length (never mind that I've never written anything close to that long since), and you are an awesome writer, and you can't give up now!

Plus, y'know, I really want to read that fic. Hee. :)

I don't think it's quite that drastic, but yeah. A LOT has to change. *sighs*
