bit of a meme
Apr. 30th, 2007 06:36 pmA little past midnight last night/this morning, unexplained amounts of thumping from the floor above us managed to cause the light fixture on our kitchen ceiling to fall off and shatter with a spectacular crash on our kitchen floor. We swept and mopped and suchlike, but I'm still finding tiny shards of glass, which makes every trip to the kitchen a fun and exciting new game of Will I Cut My Foot Open Today Or Not?.
But anyway, 3 things meme gacked from
kohaku1977.
Comment and I will give you 3 interests on your list, and 3 icons, for you to explain.
She gave me:
interests:
the melty man - oh, Coupling UK, funniest sitcom ever. Back when I first got hooked on it a couple of years ago, I added a bunch of key phrases from it to my interests list. And made it my LJ theme. Which has remarkable lasting power, because every time I consider changing it, some random person commenting on one of my fics will add something like AND COUPLING IS AWESOME YAY, so I feel like it should stay. But anyway. The melty man is...a rather lewd extended joke about male impotence. It's hard to describe, really. But it's hilarious, trust me.
captain subtext - another Coupling reference. Captain Subtext has a special "helmet of truth detection" that processes what people are really saying. He lived in Jeff's attic and had secret meetings with his mum.
pretentious film deconstruction - this is a really old interest, a remnant of high school, when my film geek friends would pick apart every movie I had or hadn't seen (
filmelder, I'm looking at you). The more pretentious the deconstruction, the more fun. I dunno.
icons:

Yet another Coupling reference. "To know about the Giggle Loop is to become part of the Giggle Loop." Basically, the chain of events that starts with you thinking something inappropriately hilarious at a really inopportune moment, and leads to you making a complete ass of yourself when you inevitably bust out laughing at that really inopportune moment.

The Marauders' Map, with text from the song "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley or Rufus Wainwright or any of the other hundred people who have done covers of it. It's just such a melancholy, wistful sort of song, and so very Remus or Sirius "now" looking back on the Marauders' era...gah.

A real shop in Dublin, a couple of blocks away from where I lived last year. It sold, like, doorknobs and knockers and other such brass-type things. But who cares what it actually sold, the name is bloody hilarious. (For any non-native English speakers out there, "knob" is a slang term for penis, and "knockers" for breasts.)
