It IS daunting. I've more or less reached a point in my life where I've stopped caring who knows about my fandom-ness, at least to some extent, because if they're THAT put off by it they're probably not worth hanging around. But it took me most of college to get here, and I still instinctively tone it down a lot with most people.
And we should SO hang out! Since we're both new to the area, I'm sure we could have loads of fun getting lost together. :)
