kaydeefalls: rose/ten outside TARDIS, looking up into the sky (infinite possibilities)

This will not be a coherent post.

Nonsense and all, I adored everything up to the Doctor's "death" in the radiation chamber or what the fuck ever it was. Loved the way the Time Lords were returning, loved "That's how I chose to remember them", loved that they wound up being worse than anything else out there. Loved the way the Doctor chose to use his bullet. Loved the Master's sacrifice. Loved the fact that the Doctor ended up dying for a perfectly ordinary old man. LOVE. (There were bits in there that were less interesting or that I didn't particularly give a shit about, but I'm just going to overlook that for now, because this is the general impression I took away with me.)

RASSILON HAS A RISEN MITTEN OH DEAR GOD THAT'S WHERE THEY CAME FROM.

And then there was the incredibly overly sentimental revisiting of everyone ever, which I have very mixed feelings about. On the one hand, it was marvelous to see everyone, of course, and to know that they're all kicking ass. Donna finally gets her wedding! Sarah Jane continues to be marvelous! MARTHA/MICKEY WHAT. WHAT WHAT WHAT. (Totally fits my personal canon of them joining Torchwood together, though I realize they're probably meant to be UNIT there.) And Jack's intergalactic bar of every alien species we've ever encountered. JACK/ALONSO WHAT. WHAT. WHAT! And Joan's granddaughter, that was actually a nice touch. But, see, on the other hand, I kind of hate that they did that. It didn't make any sense that he could hold off the regeneration for so long, not even a little bit. And, frankly, I don't like big fuck-off epilogues. Hated this part of Harry Potter, too, because from a fandom perspective, it closes as many doors as it opens. The random mash-up of incredibly unexpected pairings, while amusing, just...WHAT. I have nothing against either Martha/Mickey or Jack/Alonso. Just. WHAT. WHERE DID THAT COME FROM.

Neat little circumvention of the CoE issue there, though. Those of us who know Torchwood infer it; anyone who doesn't, well, whatever. I'm also going to choose to believe that this could be any point in Jack's personal timeline, though, and most likely several hundred more years down the line for him. The thought that the Doctor "fixes" Jack's post-CoE trauma by tossing another cute boy at him is just...NO. I'm all for healing and moving on, but that's not a quick fix. (I'm sure Russell Tovey would be A-OK with getting to snog John Barrowman onscreen, though!) Um, yeah, I'm not really coherent right now, sorry. I fully support Jack/Alonso when Jack crosses Alonso's chronological timeline, and that the Doctor would jump there to set them up. Just not immediately following CoE OH GOD THAT WOULD BE SO UNFAIR TO ALONSO, he should not have to deal with Jack's shit right then.

The Doctor visiting Rose on the Powell Estates was fucking beautiful, and I have read that scenario in several dozen fics, but anyway. MUCH better way to include Rose than somehow dragging her back from her alternate universe AGAIN, and oh, Tennant handled that pitch perfectly, my god.

And the regeneration. OH MY GOD MY LOVE FOR ELEVEN ALREADY KNOWS NO BOUNDS. "I'm a girl! Oh god! Wait...no I'm not. STILL NOT GINGER. Oh who cares, I'M CRASHING AND THIS IS AWESOME!" FLAIL TIMES A BILLIONTY. I've been ready for a new Doctor since "Journey's End", frankly, love Ten though I do, it's time and past. I AM SO EXCITED FOR NEXT SEASON NOW. SO SO SO EXCITED. And excited to have Moffat take the reins over from Davies, while we're at it.

In conclusion: MARTHA/MICKEY WHAT.

ETA: I just rewatched the regeneration, like, five more times. SO FUCKING AWESOME. It's a little sad that in an episode all about saying goodbye to Ten, the main thing I'll take away from it is OMFG ELEVEN IS MY NEW FAVORITE. But he's just so...perfectly madcap and marvelous! It's like we're getting the FUN side of the Doctor back, and oh, I missed him most of all. This is what's been largely missing from the Doctor since the end of S2, and while I love love love Tennant's emo heartstring-pulling, I really did miss the Doctor's sheer joy in everything the universe throws at him. And man, I've been behind Matt Smith from the moment I saw his bit in the Ten Doctors Confidential a year ago, and it's looking to be justified. Here's to a less emo Eleven!
