I am getting a car today.

It should be noted that I have never owned a car in my life, only got my license at age 22 as a formality and haven't driven since. The prospect of owning a car scares the living daylights out of me. There will be people on the road who think I can drive it, and this is a blatant falsehood.

So what am I doing? Driving seven hours down to Tennessee tomorrow.

OH GOD OH GOD I AM GOING TO DIE IN A DITCH OFF A HIGHWAY IN TENNESSEE.

(I am getting a car because my grandfather finally has given up driving, and I'm inheriting his car. I knew this was coming, but I'd hoped it would take another couple of years, because I'm really in no position to own a car right now. And yet. My first world problems, let me show you them.)

If you're really not in a position to own a car, could you sell it, or would that be considered ungrateful by your family?

DON'T DIE IN A DITCH! Plot more time that whatever you think the drive will take so you don't feel pressured to go too fast and you can take lots of breaks if you start feeling tired or stressed. You are going to do just fine!

Also, in preparation for your trip, I want to know your top five roadtrip songs!

Don't panic! Driving that distance will seem daunting but in all honesty, in my experience driving on the interstates on long trips like that is much easier than navigating a city. It might be mentally draining though, if you're nervous about it, so stop every hour or so for a few minutes at a rest stop or something and get out of the car and think about how not-dead you are so far. :D

Knoxville, because my grandmother and one of my uncles live there. Wheee. Actually wound up listening to a friend of the family who lives in Chattanooga talking about the area for a very long time. Apparently you have a freshwater fish aquarium in town...

That's funny, yes, we used to have the biggest freshwater aquarium in the world but now I think there are a couple that are larger like in Tokyo or something.
