Aw, shit, I think I've stumbled onboard the New Fandom Train. You can tell because I already got myself an Abbie Mills icon. I've been crushing on Elementary for a fuckin' year already and I still haven't made myself an Elementary icon, but two episodes into Sleepy Hollow and I'm sold, apparently.

Episode two already fixed my single biggest problem with the pilot, which was killing off John Cho. ALL BETTER NOW. I am 100% okay with John Cho as a recurring snarky villain on this show. YES GOOD.

Also, I would gladly watch 45 minutes a week entirely composed of Ichabod discovering the 21st century. SHE LEFT HIM LIKE A MILLION STICKY NOTES. I AM IN LOVE.

It goes without saying that Abbie is the bestest forever, although having seen her sister for all of two minutes now, I gotta say, there might be some competition in that area, because holy shit.

Also, can we talk about how rad it is that, as in Elementary, half of the main cast is composed of people of color? Every time this show introduces a new recurring character of color, an angel gets its wings, I swear to god. Abbie's sister! John Cho! Abbie's ex! ALL OF THE INCIDENTAL CHARACTERS WHO HAVE BEEN KILLED GRUESOMELY SO FAR HAVE BEEN WHITE ADULT MALES, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND. HOW IS THIS REAL. (Yes, we've killed John Cho and the dark witch as well, but I'm talking about the body count among the extras.) I don't think the show has passed Bechdel yet -- wait, yes it did, never mind, the conversation between the sister and the nurse counts -- but I'm sure it'll pass with flying colors once the two sisters are in a scene together. And it definitely passes the race version of Bechdel, with Abbie and Frank.

I mean, I still get hung up on stupid shit like the fact that dawn broke over the church steeple before it hit the horizon, or that Ichabod spent a night at a psychiatric institution without anyone ever changing his clothes, but I'm totally cool with all the supernatural bullshit. I am 100% behind ridiculous apocalypses. SOLD. Also on Ichabod and Abbie's Mulder-and-Scully routine, with Katrina serving time as the Samantha complex (except that Katrina seems to actually have some agency of her own, or at least did at one point and may well again in the future).

YES GOOD.

I just deleted a comment that was basically c&p'ing what you said and agreeing in capslock, because yeah, Sleepy Hollow has pretty much sold me too. I'm definitely in for the ride!

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! YOU HAVE JOINED US, KAYDEE. WELCOME TO THE CLUB.

I love this show because it's so ridiculous. (Like, really, can someone please take Ichabod to the thrift store and get him some new threads?) Sometimes you want to take a break from all of the heavy, intellectual shows and have a happy place where you can laugh at Ichabod discovering a smartphone, without too much emotional investment.

As a woman of color, I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU ON ALL OF THAT. Everything you said up there makes me happy, but what I love even more is the number of strong women in this show (literally and figuratively). Even though the shady new captain is trying to sabotage her, Abbie Mills gives no fucks and does what she wants all the time. Her sister is doing pull-ups in the mental institution and Katrina was the queen of her coven? YOU GO, GIRLS. I'm excited to see where the show will go from here.

P.S. Does this mean I will get some Kaydeefalls fanfic where Ichabod and Abbie are best bros????? :D?

P.P.S. Yes, that was a shameless podfic self-rec. Don't mind if I do.

I love it! I am head over heels for the ridiculous mythology and determined characters and Evil John Cho (actually pretty effective!) And I can't wait to see more of Jenny.

I didn't actually read anything under the cut because I haven't gotten a chance to watch the second episode yet, but based both on the pilot and on fandom's reaction, I am pretty much in permanent capslock about this show. ABBIEEEEEEE \o/
