This is my 500th post. That frightens me.

In the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] filmelder and his pretentious film school opinions, and the fact that I can't resist a [indirect] challenge, kaydee rewrites the AFI's 100 best films list. Except I'm including foreign films, just because I can. (And keep in mind that I haven't seen very many pre-1985 movies, so there are a few Greats that I'm not listing because I haven't seen 'em, not because they aren't Great. Oh, and yes, there are a few children's movies on there, because...still great.)

...On second thought, I'm only doing 60. Because I really haven't seen enough pre-1985 movies, and that makes my list seem a little...unfair. There are a lot of "Classics" that I haven't seen yet but really want to, and something tells me a bunch of them will make it on my list after I see them. And yeah. So.

D'oh. Now I gotta go kick myself for all the ones you have that I forgot. Like I said, 100 is just way the hell too small.

Yeah, looking back, I missed a couple myself. And I just rented Becket yesterday, and now I want to stick it in at about #8. Bah. Too many movies, too little time...

Okay, so I looked at [livejournal.com profile] filmelder's list, and I thought, "Okay, so if he's going to leave out international films, then I can't really complain." But...you! Kaydee, I expected better!

How could you not include a single Kurosawa film?! ::wails:: The Seven Samurai and Rashomon are film classics! And what about Raise the Red Lantern, which is by that Chinese director whose name I can never remember? Argh.

Also, I like Mack's list better, simply because it has Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. Even if he has an advantage because it's a longer list. But in accord about The Godfather.

Ahem. I haven't SEEN any Kurosawa films. I can't list films I haven't bloody well seen! My knowledge of foreign cinema is generally limited to movies I've watched in French or Italian class, plus a couple that made it to blockbuster status in the US.

Again, I haven't seen nearly enough "classics." Like Dr. Zhivago, being why I didn't list it. And I hated Lawrence of Arabia with a burning, fiery passion, so neener.

Fine. I forgive you.

Wait no, not if you're insulting Peter O' Toole and Omar Sharif. Nyah. (Just kidding.) Anyway, I haven't seen three-quarters of the films on your list, so I suppose we're even.

Peter O'Toole rocks in every movie I've seen him in -- except Lawrence. Praise him with great praise in Becket, in The Lion in Winter, in anything else. But Lawrence made me gag.
