That blackout was actually kinda fun. I mean, I didn't like the whole walking-home-all-4.5-miles-from-work-in-the-HEAT thing, and the lack of air conditioner was blah, and the lack of elevators meant climbing the seven or eleven or six flights (to my apt and two friends' apts, respectively) in the dark, which was a little annoying.
But on the other hand, candlelit parties and egregious abuse of high-power flashlights (ahahahaha!) and New York City actually being dark and stuff, all of which are whee! And, bizarrely enough, this blackout has provided a close friend (![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
lush_rimbaud's YKW, actually) and I to have a long-overdue talk, wherein we spent the hours from about 10 PM to 3 AM wandering the dark streets and dark Riverside Park and dark Grant's Tomb and dark Columbia campus property, finally sorting through almost four years of emotional/psychological baggage and issues, hashing through every aspect of our somewhat fucked up friendship and being completely open and honest with each other for the first time. Wow. We needed that. A lot. That was the most satisfying 5-hr conversation I've ever had. Especially because we're both moving on and going off to college in a few weeks, and it feels so damn good not to leave any unfinished business behind.
So, yeah. Thank you, blackout. I needed something like this. I feel better now than I have in over a year.

it's amazing how hard cities can crash, hm? it got back up again, but all that happened because of some small power failure, right? imagine something bigger.... o_o
