shipperness
Dec. 19th, 2003 04:39 amRotK viewing #2 even better.
Came out of movie theater craving RotK Merry/Pippin and old school Domlijah BADLY. We wants it, we does! (Look for it tomorrow when we're awake, we will!)
I think I finally understand why, in spite of being a fervent Frodo/Sam shipper, I've never really been interested in reading or writing Frodo/Sam fics. Seeing RotK onscreen again clinched it for me. I don't want any fanfics -- the source material is more powerful, pure, and beautiful than anything else I could read or write.
<3 Frodo/Sam. Now, off for some nice, angsty, not-too-sappy Merry/Pippin... (Oh, wait. It doesn't exist. My bad.)*
*I'm fairly sure it DOES exist somewhere, but at the moment, am too tired to be arsed to think of any examples. :)

And yes, I would say virtually all F/S fanfic can't touch what canon is. I've read one or two that are able to get close, but the palpable love and sorrow and joy of their friendship can't be rewritten.

Also, when reading a RotK review in my local newspaper, I was tickled to see 'homoerotic' in the same sentence as Sam and Frodo. Though it was brought up while they were going on and on about how effeminate Frodo is...
