RotK viewing #2 even better.

Came out of movie theater craving RotK Merry/Pippin and old school Domlijah BADLY. We wants it, we does! (Look for it tomorrow when we're awake, we will!)

I think I finally understand why, in spite of being a fervent Frodo/Sam shipper, I've never really been interested in reading or writing Frodo/Sam fics. Seeing RotK onscreen again clinched it for me. I don't want any fanfics -- the source material is more powerful, pure, and beautiful than anything else I could read or write.

<3 Frodo/Sam. Now, off for some nice, angsty, not-too-sappy Merry/Pippin... (Oh, wait. It doesn't exist. My bad.)*

*I'm fairly sure it DOES exist somewhere, but at the moment, am too tired to be arsed to think of any examples. :)

What is old-skool Domlijah exactly? LOL

You can't get more old-skool than "Surfing" by [livejournal.com profile] buffett, if you ask me.

And yes, I would say virtually all F/S fanfic can't touch what canon is. I've read one or two that are able to get close, but the palpable love and sorrow and joy of their friendship can't be rewritten.

Ah, "Surfing." That WAS the fic I was thinking of, actually. The first one I read in this fandom, and still my favorite. *happy sigh*

My personal Middle Earth is pretty straight, so after reading some, I gave up on FPS. Except one. Gabby's Busca me. It's not perfect by any means, but it's so beautiful.

Hmm... very interesting. You know, I sort of feel the same way. I love their relationship in the books and movies; you can't surpass canon in that respect. Thanks for clearing up one of the many puzzles traipsing around my head. :)

Also, when reading a RotK review in my local newspaper, I was tickled to see 'homoerotic' in the same sentence as Sam and Frodo. Though it was brought up while they were going on and on about how effeminate Frodo is...
