From the new 2004-2006 course guide:
HIST 29900. Tolkien: Medieval and Modern. J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular works of imaginative literature of the twentieth century. This course seeks to understand its appeal by situating Tolkien's creation within the context of its medieval sources and modern parallels. Possible themes include the nature of history and its relationship to story, the activity of creation and its relationship to language, and the interaction between the world of "faerie" and religious belief. Students must read The Lord of the Rings trilogy before the first day of class. Spring, 2005.

Is it next spring yet?! *bounces*

R. Fulton and L. Pick, apparently. I'm not familiar with either prof, but then again, I'm just a first-year...
