fandoms should never be allowed to die...
Mar. 22nd, 2005 12:59 am...because sometimes, when the nostalgia hits, you want to be able to go back and rediscover all your old favorite fics. And when you do that, you do NOT want to find that the fic archive you trusted most back in the old days is still technically a website but NO LONGER ARCHIVES FIC. And when you find an excellent links site, you realize that it hasn't been updated since 2001 and most of those links are now dead. And while Gossamer is still Gossamer, that means it's STILL GOSSAMER, which means that you have to sift through a hell of a lot of crap to find anything worth reading -- which is even harder than ever, because back when you were IN the X-Files fandom, you were THIRTEEN and had either a much higher crap tolerance level -- or, shall we say, slightly less refined tastes.
By which I mean, I'm craving old school post-ep X-Files fic from no later than season 5, and I can't. I just can't.
*weeps*

The only point in favour of it, really, is that it has everything, and sometimes it is the only place to start.
I still haven't gotten over my attachment to it entirely, despite how awful it most of the time and the fact that my web browser is no longer fully supported because I found it myself, on my own, before I had fully entered fandom. And it was still quite good then. Sigh.

Date: 2005-03-22 07:01 am (UTC)I don't know if this is helpful, but I have an embarrassingly large number of X-Files fics saved on my PC at home. If you're looking for particular stories or authors, I could check to see if I have any. I haven't looked in those folders for *years* but I'm a bit of a pack rat so I didn't delete much.

Date: 2005-03-22 11:25 pm (UTC)Man, there are a couple of stories and authors I used to love, and I wish I could remember the titles or the authors' names. Thanks, but there's no way I'll still remember specifics. I used to have 'em all bookmarked, but then I got rid of that AOL account. Drat. I should have copied the links.
