Do you think Aragorn would have tried to reclaim the throne of Gondor had the Ring not come along?
This is...a rather difficult question, actually, especially if taken strictly in a movie context. In the movie, Strider just doesn't seem ready to take on the throne. Middle Earth is all but fractured, Gondor has been ruled by only its stewards for millenia, and Aragorn himself has a few bloodline issues to get through. Being Isildur's heir and not Isildur himself, and all. It simply isn't *feasible* for Aragorn-sans-Ring to try reclaiming his throne.
