Have internet in my apartment now. It's about time.

Why does LJ log me out whenever I click "update journal"? Is there some bizarre new bug going around?

I had that issue too until I went to the main log in page and clicked 'never' for the log out option.

I'm having login problems, too. I log in, choose the "never" option for when I want to log out, but when I look up at the top of the page I'm still shown as not logged in. The only way I can stay logged in is if I make a comment, type in my username and password and ask to be logged in on the comment screen. Then once I post my comment I'm in. No idea why it's happening. I never had problems before.
