Wednesday night, whilst cooking, I managed to splash a few drops of the cooking oil on my wrist. Being the sort of person who has so well adapted to her infinite klutziness that she never actually seriously injures herself and has never, for example, been seriously burned before, the only reaction I managed to summon up was to stare at my wrist while BOILING OIL ate through my skin. Ha! I DEFY you, boiling oil! I care so little about you that I will NOT EVEN WASH YOU OFF MY SKIN!

Until I realized OMG THAT HURTS, at which point I started hopping around and clutching my wrist and yelling for a while, in the hopes that my antics would either a) magically make it stop hurting or b) magically reverse time so I never got splashed in the first place, as opposed to c) accomplish absolutely nothing.

Needless to say, that wasn't the cleverest thing I've ever done. Or not done, as the case may be. I now have three stinging red welts on my wrist where the oil attacked me. And I spent the rest of the evening trying to finish cooking without getting within range of splashing oil (read: anywhere in kitchen) or using my right hand at all. Oy.

Okay, yes, I realize that this is an incredibly minor injury. Leave me be in my exaggerated anguish.

The other day I accidentally spilled boiling water on myself (just on my hand) and proceeded to yelp and rush for the sink. The sad thing about all of this was that my blockmate, who had been standing right in front of me and complaining about her bad day, watched this with perfect composure and continued talking without once asking if I was all right. ;_; I guess spilling boiling water on yourself isn't normally cause for concern. Nonetheless, you have my complete sympathies. (Neosporin helps!)

Yeah, by the time it occurred to me to stick my hand in the sink, it was too late and the cold water just made it hurt more. Bah.

It's ok, once I was so upset by burning oil that I had to get Maeve to draw a cartoon of me being attacked by hot oil droplets of doom. The next day I had awesome little scabs. You'll be ok. Drinking will probably help the pain go away.

Bummer! But if it ever happens again (with any sort of burn), the coldest water you can get out of the tap RIGHT AWAY. It can help lessen the severity of the burn. :)
