That meme going around -
1. Check out my fics and pick out a line or two from one of my stories. They can't be generic sort of 'Hi!' lines, nor something very vague like "Oh god. Yeah. There. Fuck!"

2. I will respond with which story I think it's from.

3. Points and a drabble to whoever stumps me.

Come on. You know you want to. Distract me from my cranky friendlessness!

This is probably too easy, but:

"Please stop coming back," Remus whispers, and kisses him.

Way too easy. *grins* Love Song of Sirius Black.

Unfortunately it is more fun to pick the great, distinctive lines than those that would be hard to guess!

"I don't like kissing much," you say, wrinkling your nose. "I don't know why you'd want to do it. It's all wet and slimy and unpleasant."

Maybe this one is a bit harder:

The books failed him this summer, though. His mind kept wandering.

Ugh, that IS harder. I don't recognize that line at all! But...okay, logical deduction, sounds like something I'd write about Remus. Most of my HP fics were written fairly recently, and given my neurotic method of fic-writing (reread everything, add a line or two, reread everything...), it was probably a quick one-off. Like a drabble.

'Rain'? I think that's the title I gave the dratted thing.

I was gonna do this meme, but then i got sucked into your MST thing that's in your memories, and now I can't see because my eyes have watered with hysterical tears.

Oh, man. I think you finally got me. That's...that's a first-person POV. I haven't written a first-person POV in years. That has to be one of my earliest Lotrips fics. Y'know, one of the ones I've tried to block out of my memory. Crap.

Shot in the dark -- 'Not Exactly Detached'? From what I recall, it sounds slightly more like that fic than the others. But I could definitely be wrong here.

Nope, it's from 'Get thee hence' (the remix you did for [livejournal.com profile] mcee's 'Come-hither'), and it's from the barmaids' pov, that's what got you on the wrong track I guess. *grins*

*grins* Oh, Sean, so lovely yet so rarely found in my fics. "I Stood Upon A High Place", yes?

If you want Merry/Pippin -- yes? That's what you'd ask, right? -- you're going to have to try harder than that. ;)

Oh, come on. That's cheating! That's the sort of dialogue I would give just about anybody! I'll bet I have more than one fic where someone says that. It's generic snark!

If forced, I would guess it's from "Auld Lang Syne", which is ALL snarky dialogue JUST LIKE THAT. But that fic isn't online, and I dunno if you ever bought the Lotripping zine, so that's probably not at all a safe guess. It could easily be from either "Of Age" or "A World Without", because I'm sure I featured snarky!Merry in both, but it's probably a Lotrips fic of some sort.

I give in, even though that's so cheating, because I know you'll just keep going until you really do stump me fairly. Hmph. So, what particular brand of Merry/Pippin were you looking for?

Date: 2005-10-19 11:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] danachan.livejournal.com
*laughs*

Actually, I do have the lotripping zine, but I wouldn't have thought to lift from "Auld Lang Syne" -- but all this talk of cheating has me putting out another line instead of just claiming my prize. (It was from "Just a Bit of Fun".) I will keep trying until I stump you fairly. So nyeh.

"We are," Dom says cheerfully. You suppress a sudden, inexplicable urge to strangle him.

Date: 2005-10-19 11:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kaydeefalls.livejournal.com
You could have just claimed it, because the stumping, it will come. There are too many fics I wrote too long ago. Like most of my Lotrips.

Like this one, in fact, which is a very valid and non-cheating line. I really, really ought to know this, because I almost never use second-person POV. And not recently. It's definitely an older fic. It's probably Dom/Elijah. I cannae remember which of my old Domlijahs were 1st or 2nd person POVs. Guess -- "Not Exactly Detached"? I can't remember what POV I used for that, but it sounds like that Elijah.

Seriously, though, whether I guessed wrong or not, name your Merry/Pippin flavor of choice. It's silly for you to keep dregging up my oldest fics. I don't believe in dragging out the inevitable. ;)

Date: 2005-10-19 11:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] danachan.livejournal.com
You're right about it being Elijah POV, but the story is "Passing Lights". I don't know when you posted it, but I'll take your word that it's an older one.

See, now that I've won without cheating, I will name my Merry/Pippin flavor of choice: happy, please. Because "Of Age" and "A Short Detour" are both wonderful, but they're flavored rather sad. You can pick whether it's pre or post-quest -- I think the happy is possible either place, but it might be a different sort of happy, depending on which you choose.

(If you want, I posted this one too (http://www.livejournal.com/users/danachan/535122.html).)

ARGH NO PASSING LIGHTS.

Way to go, kaydee, with the realization two minutes after guessing WRONG.

Your ficlet has been fairly earned. OMG that is the second time I guessed wrong with Not Exactly Detached. It seems to be my catch-all for fics what I've forgotten.
