So, for my birthday, my parents got me the QAF UK collector's edition DVDs.

Which they ordered from amazon.co.uk, of course, because it's not sold in the US.

So I now have the DVD set I have most longed for this year, in a DVD region that I can't play.

So, decision time: either I a) return this DVD and mourn quietly to myself or b) change my laptop to region 2. Of course, b) would mean that I would no longer be able to play my other DVDs on my laptop (there are a very limited amount of times I can switch between regions before it sticks for permanent), but I'm living in an apartment with a TV and normal (region 1) DVD player, so for the year, at least, I'll be fine watching the rest of the DVDs on that. And, I guess, once I graduate and move out and things, I can just buy a multiregion DVD player and be set. Broke, but set.

Oh, hell, like it was ever actually a choice. *changes laptop DVD region setting*

You can try googling your DVD player model number with "region free" in the search and see if any region free hacks pop up--I've been able to de-region every DVD player I've owned that way.

Is the collector's edition of the UK version different than the regular edition? I only ask because Amazon's US site sells Region 1 versions of the British DVDs.

The collector's has a LOT more stuff on it. Plus, the region 1 versions are literally three or four ties as expensive as their UK counterparts. >_<

VLC media player, which can be downloaded for free over here (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), can play most dvd's of any region. Have you tried that?

I bought a $65 DVD player that's hackable to all regions, just to watch Doctor Who 2005. It was worth it, but then I don't buy many toys these days.

My roommate 1st semester has a MAc laptop, and she said she could change regions up to a certain amount of times, so she just changed the region once, watched the entire Law and Order DVD set, then switched back, if that helps?

I know, but see, I plan on watching QAF UK more than once, y'know? And I can't keep switching back and forth between regions depending on which DVD I'm watching.
