kaydeefalls: tyrol cradles dying sharon (from bad to worse)

I am literally sobbing here. Which makes no sense, really, but...I loved Gaeta. Loved that character. Even when he went all wrong. And he was wrong, but at the same time, not entirely, and he made some monumentally bad decisions, and I knew he would end up dead, but...fuck. Gaeta. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

I won't miss Zarek so much, although he was always a fascinating character to have lurking around. He became much less interesting once he actually started his rebellion. Also, murdering the Quorum? Call me naive, but I totally did not see that coming.

In other news, Tyrol continues to rock my socks, it was awesome bringing Romo back, and what the frak Anders?! (Although, this could be interesting: what happens if one of the Final Five dies? If we have to lose one, though, I'd vastly prefer Tory the Utterly Useless to Anders the Extremely Attractive If Somewhat Dim.)

Also, can Athena and Helo have actual plotlines sometime soon, rather than being obligatory set dressing?

And in conclusion: GAETA. GODDAMNIT.

I totally didn't see the Quorum massacre coming either. I figured maybe, just possibly he'd execute Sideburns Guy as a warning to the rest, but I wasn't EXPECTING it. It was more moustache-twirling evil than I had expected from our Tom. Yeah, maybe Laird last week should've been a warning, but that felt different from this. For one thing, while Laird himself didn't pose a physical threat, Zarek was in physical danger and was on the lam. So while I couldn't forgive him for killing Laird, I could at least put some of it down to fear and adrenaline. Also, he killed Laird himself, got his own hands dirty. Ordering the Quorum killed by his minions felt much more...corrupt. And also kind of felt like an easy out, so we could throw our support whole-heartedly behind Roslin and Adama (they just ignore the democratic process, they don't execute its representatives, so they're the lesser of two evils).

And yeah, Zarek as gadfly and speaker of uncomfortable truths to the powerful was so damn USEFUL to the Fleet. Maybe it's partly because I'm from a country where the second biggest political party is officially called Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition (upper case L, upper case O). There is this idea built into the whole system that complaining about/fighting against the dominant paradigm is its own form of loyalty, and what's more, is a NECESSARY component of the system. Zarek and the Quorum were decidedly imperfect, but they were also the only accountability Roslin and Adama had.

Also, who wants to bet that at least some of the people who joined in Adama's march on CIC were opportunists who saw which way the wind was blowing and decided to cross back to the winning side and save their own skins?

I read somewhere that one of the reasons Helo and Athena are both pretty scarce at this point is because during Season 4.5 Penikett was spending a lot of time in LA shooting Dollhouse and Park was spending a lot of time in Toronto shooting The Border. I have no idea if it's true or not, though, as there have been other times in the past when they've been under-used but not due to scheduling conflicts.

The more I see of Rambo!Athena letting Auntie Caprica help out with her husband and kid, the more frustrated I get about Natalie's death. Yeah, yeah, I know Athena didn't have a whole lot of choice here. But why oh why did we have to lose Natalie?
