top fives!
Aug. 10th, 2009 07:35 pmLongish day, but not in a bad way. Started at the new job. Shouldn't be too bad -- I mean, receptionist. Mostly tricky in terms of learning the organization and who works where, but I'll get used to it quick enough. It's not the first time I've had to do this sort of thing. And I really do like the people and the organization itself, so I feel pretty good about going into work. Not too fond of starting work at 8am, but on the other hand, it's really nice to be done at noon and still have the whole day ahead of me.
Anyway!
Fannish Top Five meme, now with bonus screencaps:
Top five Jack/Ianto moments:
Oh, christ, like I'm actually capable of RANKING these.
1. The conversation in "To the Last Man". Look, I'd like to be edgy and different, but what can I say, that scene is basically the reason I got into the Whoniverse at all. You think I'm joking, but I'm not. I watched a couple of episodes of Doctor Who and thought they were cute, then got distracted by life and forgot about it. And then six months later or so, half my friendslist started talking about these Jack & Ianto guys, and someone posted the YouTube video of that scene, and I watched it out of curiosity. And then watched it about twelve more times, and then looked up the Whoniverse timeline and went straight back to downloading Who (I think I was up to "Dalek") just so that I could get through all of series 1 & 2 of Who, series 1 of Torchwood, and series 3 of Who so that I could get back to that one scene in its proper context. I'm...only a little ashamed of myself, because that was my entry point to falling in love with the Whoniverse as a whole, and SO MUCH LOVE guys, it's not nearly just about Jack and Ianto anymore. But yeah. So, that scene, kind of pivotal to my fannish life.

2. The interactions between them while Jack and Rhys are having their little pissing contest in "Meat". It's such a fun, understated way to establish their relationship in front of the team as a whole (and the outsider, Rhys), and the fondly amused/exasperated look Ianto shoots over at Jack is totally worth the price of admission.

3. Can't avoid listing the infamous Stopwatch Scene, either.

4. The way Jack looks at Ianto when handing back his diary at the end of "Adam". I mean, that whole little scene is kind of hilarious and adorable, but seriously, this is how Jack looks at Ianto:

5. Uh, so apparently me & early S2 are the place to BE for Jack/Ianto, but whatever. Sleeper. Priceless. I mean, every single Ianto moment in that episode is pretty spectacular (seriously, best. Ianto. episode. EVER), but in particular--

And then Jack runs the fuck away, and Ianto just SCOWLS and goes right after him. Funniest background moment ever.
Top five war buddies:
Okay, this is hard, because I don't have very many fandoms that involve wars happening.
1. Dick Winters & Lewis Nixon, Band of Brothers. Well, OBVIOUSLY. Whether you slash them or not (and I think it's fairly clear I do), you cannot deny that much of BoB is the Epic Bromance Of Winters And Nixon.

2. Likewise BoB - Don Malarkey & Skip Muck (& Alex Penkala). Oh, the unholy trinity of Easy Company. Mostly Muck and Malark, but Penk as well.

3. Merry & Pippin count, right? I mean, they weren't war buddies, exactly, but -- buddies who went to war together? (Also, this is the point where I became exhausted and gave up on screencaps/quotes, but whatever, we all know Merry and Pippin.)
4. This is not an OTP of mine at all, but Sirius & James (HP) were pretty much the ultimate war buddies during the first war against Voldemort. So, them.
5. And if HP wars count, which they clearly do, NEVILLE & GINNY LEADING THE STUDENTS OF HOGWARTS INTO REVOLUTION FOR GREAT JUSTICE AND BADASSERY.
Any more? These are fun!

Jack: This time tomorrow he'll be back in 1918.
Ianto: In his own time. Would you go back to yours, if you could?
Jack: Why? Would you miss me?
Ianto: Yep.
Jack: I left home a long time ago, I don't know where I really belong. Maybe that doesn't matter anymore.
Ianto: I know you get lonely.
Jack: Going home wouldn't fix that. Being here, I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see, loved people people I never would have known if I'd stayed where I was. And I wouldn't change that for the world.

Rhys: Well if you stopped and asked me exactly what I saw in there instead of showing off...
Jack: Do I show off?
Ianto: Just a bit.
3. Can't avoid listing the infamous Stopwatch Scene, either.

Ianto: You know, I still have that stopwatch.
Jack: So?
Ianto: Think about it, lots of things you can do with a stopwatch.
Jack: Oh yeah, I can think of a few.
Ianto: There's quite a list.
Jack: I'll send the others home early, see you in my office in ten.
Ianto: That's ten minutes...and counting.
4. The way Jack looks at Ianto when handing back his diary at the end of "Adam". I mean, that whole little scene is kind of hilarious and adorable, but seriously, this is how Jack looks at Ianto:

Jack: Oh, by the way, I found your diary.
Ianto: Ah, yes, I've been looking for that.
Jack: And for the record, measuring tapes never lie.
5. Uh, so apparently me & early S2 are the place to BE for Jack/Ianto, but whatever. Sleeper. Priceless. I mean, every single Ianto moment in that episode is pretty spectacular (seriously, best. Ianto. episode. EVER), but in particular--

Nixon: I don't know why I'm still doing this.
Winters: Drinking?
Nixon: No, hiding it in your foot locker. I'm a captain, for Christ sake.
Winters: Why don't you just give it up?
Nixon: Drinking?
Winters: No, hiding it in my foot locker. You're a captain, for Pete's sake.
2. Likewise BoB - Don Malarkey & Skip Muck (& Alex Penkala). Oh, the unholy trinity of Easy Company. Mostly Muck and Malark, but Penk as well.

Malarkey: Hey, Skip! Where ya been? I've been lookin' all over for you!
Muck: Well, Don, I was at home in Tonawanda, but then Hitler started this whole thing, so now I'm here.
3. Merry & Pippin count, right? I mean, they weren't war buddies, exactly, but -- buddies who went to war together? (Also, this is the point where I became exhausted and gave up on screencaps/quotes, but whatever, we all know Merry and Pippin.)
