So I love baking, but generally hate cooking. This makes perfect sense to me. Anyway. I'm not so much a crap cook as an inexperienced one -- whenever I TRY to cook something, I generally succeed, but it's never anything particularly challenging or interesting. Like pasta. I'm very good at pasta and tomato sauce with random veggies thrown in.

Today I went a bit slaphappy at the supermarket -- I recently discovered that my taste buds have changed again, and suddenly I like a whole lot of foods I used to dislike. (I was very picky as a kid, but I've been steadily growing out of that since passing puberty, and now I'll at least try anything once.) Also, my bank account is in a sad, sad place these days, and eating out a lot -- even if it's just Subway -- is just not fitting into my budget right now. So! Cheap things I can cook! I bought a bunch of canned soups and beans and frozen veggies, for example.

And now I am attempting to make rice & beans -- except with no recipe, and sort of Asian-style. I have brown rice, black beans, a bag of frozen Asian veggies, and then soy sauce, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and possibly nutmeg. Let's see how this turns out. (Note: it could very well be a disaster. And nutmeg probably doesn't fit into this scheme, but it tends to be my default go-to spice in the sense of "Hmmm, this is missing something -- let's add nutmeg!")

I should get, like, three or four meals out of this. Here's hoping it tastes acceptable.
