remember remember the fifth of november
Nov. 5th, 2009 07:06 pmI have made a Who/Torchwood vid! I like finishing vids. It's a good feeling. I'm still going to sit on it for a bit, see if there are any more tweaks I want to make tomorrow -- it didn't turn out quite how I'd expected, but I'm not unhappy with that. I kind of wanted more of a narrative throughout, though. Hmmm. On the other hand, it's way less depressing in the end than I'd originally planned, which is probably for the best (though let me tell you, some of the clipping I did from Journey's End/Exit Wounds/CoE really kind of broke me, even if I didn't use them all). It's also way less about the Doctor himself and more about the Companions and how they're shaped and broken by him -- and in Jack's case, how he then transfers that over to his team as his own pseudo-Companions. And yet, again, much LESS dark than I'd originally intended.
Which is probably good, because the other vid I currently have on a low burn is all about the dark and creepy shit that happens in sci-fi media relationships, so I really didn't need to do two bleak-as-fuck vids in a row.
I'm getting more into multifandom vidding lately -- I like how relationships between different fandoms can parallel and illuminate each other. I stuck to the Whoniverse for this one, but the next is going to be Who/Torchwood/BSG/Firefly/X-Files, I think. It really ought to include Supernatural and Buffy, actually, but I don't watch either of those shows, so while I could get my hands on the source material easily enough, I wouldn't have the faintest idea which episodes to go to for clips.
Vidding: how I procrastinate when I have writer's block. At least it's some kind of productivity.

Can I just use the opportunity to say thank you? Not that it would have been bad, if it had been darker - I was half expecting (and steeling myself for) Ianto's death on my initial viewing, and I meant to tell you in my feedback how grateful I was that you'd not used that clip. CoE is brilliant, of course, but it just hurts so much that it sort of affects everything exponentially. And the vid works very nicely as it is, highlighting both the good and the bad.
And re. your next vid, then I am *very* familiar with Buffy (and Angel), so I might be able to help if you want to try? It sound like a fascinating concept for a vid!
