It is time. My dinky little Nokia cell phone is nearly five years old, and the AT&T bill I get for it every month is just too damn high to justify its abject lack of features like, say, e-mail or a camera or ANYTHING. I need to upgrade.

Now, the debate: Blackberry or iPhone? (Or I can get another, albeit newer, normal phone for free upgrade, which I am also considering because I really don't have money to throw around right now. But that's the wild card in this debate.)

I can get this Blackberry for $9.99. It has all the basic features I need, and it is cheap. On the minus side, it wouldn't also replace my 6-year-old iPod, which I also need to get rid of in the near future.

Or, this iPhone. It's MUCH more expensive -- I'd pay $149.99 -- but has a buttload more features. On the minus side, I hear these things aren't actually all that functional as PHONES, which, um, yes, that.

I'd be more inclined toward the iPhone if it weren't for the vast difference in price. But I haven't actually used either. Any Blackberry and/or iPhone users out there care to weigh in? I tend to hold on to my tech for a very long time -- see: five-year-old crappy Nokia phone and six-year-old iPod -- so once I make this choice, I'm going to stick to it for a WHILE, and I'd like to not make a bad decision.

I have zero interest in a blackberry, myself, but that isn't, like, an experienced statement that they suck or anything actually useful.

Have you considered changing services, out of curiousity?

I've had AT&T for a very, very long time, and never had any problems. Besides which, I want to keep my phone number and all that fun stuff. So I'd need a fairly compelling reason to change services entirely.

Well, I got an iPhone just before Christmas and I LOVE it! I've never used a Blackberry so I can't really compare the two. My sister has had a couple of Blackberries and she loves them. I had originally wanted to just buy an iPod Touch when a friend said why get a Touch when you can get an iPhone. Being easily persuaded :D I got the iPhone and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

It's my only phone and though I text most often, I find it quite functional as a phone and, like you say, it has a lot of great features. I just love the fact that I have my music, which I take everywhere with me anyway, and my phone in the same device. (And, of course, now I can surf the web anywhere at any time. :D)

The person who sold me the phone told me to take care of it as she had already broken hers. She just said to make sure that I got a proper case for it. I like to hang on to my tech for as long as possible too and I must admit I'm curious to see how long it'll be before I have to replace this iPhone. However, I'm willing to take the risk because, have I already said it?, I LOVE it! :D And besides, my nephew has no case for his, treats it pretty roughly and it's still working just fine. (His first one broke, but to be fair it got run over by an ATV. :D)

I also talked to someone who switched back to a Blackberry because most of her friends had Blackberries and they have their own IM service of some kind?

Anyway, there's my two bits. Hope it helps. :D

I'm actually lusting after the Palm Pre right now, which seems to have the best features of both the Blackberry and the iPhone. There are fewer apps for it, but Verizon just picked it up, so hopefully that'll be changing in the near future.

Ed's got an iPhone and it rocks like an amazing rocking thing! Maps and search and IM and web stuff and cute games and music apps... It's fine as a phone, we use it all the time.

I got another dumb phone myself, and the only thing that consoles me is saving $30 per month on the data plan. But when I'm working more, I am so going to get it.

oh gods, I love my iphone, its like having a little computer with you all the time! And its super easy to use.

I don't know anything about the berrys though, before the iphone I was in your boat, no camera or email or anything! And I didn't mind .. but I'd hate to go back now!

I have both, iPhone is mine and Blackberry is works, and the iPhone is by far my favourite. If you just want a phone it doesn't matter but the iPhone is an iPod and mini-computer on the go too.
