oh, fandom.

I have the night off, which is very exciting, and mostly means I'll probably be unconscious by 10pm. (Look, you try getting 6 hours or less of sleep every night for a week, and then get back to me about my Friday night plans.) But in the meantime, I'm in a super shippery sci-fi fandomish mood right now, and reading Jack/Ianto fics for the past couple of hours has mostly just made me feel very depressed. So I was all, hey, let me just delve into another happy fandom ship and cheer myself up!

And then I realized that in all of my serious shipper fandoms, past and present, I will be crushed by the fact that there are no canonical happy endings. Nary a one in which my OTP end up 1. both alive and 2. together. Think about it. Torchwood? JESUS CHRIST. Doctor Who? No death, but so much future!emo and, y'know, being trapped in parallel universes or memories wiped or whatever. (Although, ask me sometime how excited I am for the new series. Because I am SO DAMN EXCITED HOMG.) And then Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, even friggin' Harry Potter, the original wtf-both-the-characters-I-ship-are-inexplicably-dead-now.

So I'm going to go find an epic fic for my original fandom ship: Mulder/Scully. And it will be awesome.

Oh dear, you made me laugh at that, Xfiles for comfort food? what have we come to?

But yeah, I understand, I suppose that's the way of most love stories that really stick with us, hmmm well maybe not Jane Austen but you know what I mean! I wonder at myself for falling for these high octane angst a ramas, then I have to search out fics to make me feel better. I mean really I could start with more cheerful source material.

Mulder/Scully nostalgia squee! They were my first OTP as well, and my first introduction to fanfic. I never tried to write any fic, for which the internet should be grateful, but I did make a mix tape (yes, on an actual tape) about them and play it incessantly during my early high school years.

Angst-ridden pairings are definitely far too attractive, and a fondness for the works of RTD and Whedon makes you damn unlikely to get a happy ending. (Although Victor/Sierra, my Dollhouse ship, sort of got one! The fact that this happy ending occurred after civilization basically fell is really another bad sign.)
