There aren't many things I find more beautiful than a summer thunderstorm, when the heat is breaking and the wind is high and the rain is just pelting down.

I can see the orange sunset through the clouds. That's so weird.

Summer thunderstorms are one of the things I miss most about living on the East coast. I love the smell, the beauty of the clouds and lightning, and the sense of excitement in the air. California summer weather is dull (though it is nice to be able to count on doing things outdoors without getting wet).

The best thunderstorms I ever encountered were in Chicago, actually -- watching those bastards roll across the lake could be genuinely frightening, with bonus possibility of tornado. But yeah, I couldn't really handle California all the time -- I like having SEASONS.
