Finally sat down and finished Angel. Aw, man, just when it was finally getting good, too. I even liked Connor this season -- well, all two episodes of him. And despite having already long been spoiled in detail for just about everything in the final episode, I still cried like a small child when Wesley died. He was never my favorite character, but poor guy just never caught a break. Also, that last scene was kind of awesome and amazing, and Joss is evil. But I have a fondness for open endings, so.

And despite my tendency to interact with shows through a shipper lens, there is only one pairing I ever really shipped on Angel, and that was Darla/Drusilla. Which, given the flashback in "The Girl In Question", really is basically canon, so whee!

Right. On to find some post-"Not Fade Away" Buffy/Spike fics. Um, apart from the twenty or so I'd already read. Did I mention I'd been spoiled for this episode already?

(And for the record -- I'm aware that there are follow-up comics for both BtVS and AtS, and from the plot spoilers I've heard, I have precisely zero interest in either reading them or ever considering them canon. So it's fanon only from here on out!)

You might be half a percent interested in the fact that in one panel of one of the comics, Ten and Rose are walking by Giles's building in London. Other than that, I'm with you on the interest level. Not least because I actually find it difficult to read graphic novels.

I've actually read the comics, as my roommate is that rare breed of university student with spare cashflow to spend on such things. The Buffy followup comics are rubbish and do terrible things to canon. I'm 100% behind your plan to ignore them utterly. On the other hand, to my surprise, the Angel comics actually thrilled me to the depth of my wee fannish heart. Awesome Conner, more Wesley (WITHOUT cheapening his death), awesome Lorne, etc. Of course, it does destroy the whole "open ending", so obviously YMMV. I haven't done more than dip my toe into BtVS/A:tS fandom; do people generally have strong opinions one way or the other as to the canonicity of the comics?

Also. Re: those post-"Not Fade Away" fics. You'll re-rec the best ones, right? *grin*

I've heard a lot more about the Buffy comics, and yeah, almost all bad things. Angel I'm just...less interested in general, and would rather make up my own endings for, I think. I'm really only a lurker in the Buffyverse fandom -- read everything I can get my hands on, don't participate in discussions at all -- but from what I can tell, comics are NOT considered canon. Or, rather, optional canon, like tie-in novels or audiobooks would be.

I still haven't found any truly fabulous post-NFA fics! And there aren't nearly as many as I'd like, though possibly I'm just looking in all the wrong places (very possible). Most of the best fics I've found so far go AU from canon at different points, which I definitely also enjoy...

Darla/Drusilla = ♥ forever

I still haven't finished AtS. I am just not loving it that much and there are so many more interesting things to watch. But I feel like I need to see it to finally have the actual context for all those post-NFA fics.

The comics are an interesting beast. Some people love them, more people hate them, but either way, they are informing a lot of the stuff that is getting written these days. I still don't think I am ever going to read them. Unless the next season has actual Spike/Buffy love. Which it may. In that case, all bets are off. :)

I think finishing AtS is worth it, and not only for the context. I never did like it anywhere near as much as Buffy -- or any of Joss's other shows, for that matter -- but the last few episodes are quite good, if on the bleak side.

If the comics actually go the Buffy/Spike route, I may have a peek. Although knowing what Joss does to happy couples, I really don't trust that storyline to either a) be unpleasantly dysfunctional or b) end with one of them DYING HORRIBLY. Um.

I KNOW. I can't decide if I'm hoping they will do a S/B thing so that it is all canon-y and such, or if I'm hoping they won't so that we can all continue to believe in our own mostly-less-bleak-than-joss' adventures for the two of them. :)

Good to know about AtS. I'm sort of slogging through at the moment, still in early s4. I'll finish eventually. :)

Ah, S4 of AtS is probably the toughest to get through. There's a quick run of really good episodes in the middle, but those are bookended by a slow start and one of the most annoying storylines EVER towards the end. But that run in the middle really is good, I promise! And then S5 has Spike, at least.
