kaydeefalls: winters/nixon share a moment in england (he misspelled court-martial)

I've finally had some free time this week, so I am probably the last person in fandom to have seen HP 7.2 and Captain America. But now I have seen them! I enjoyed Harry Potter more of the two -- it was very satisfying to see that all wrapped up. Not enough Order, obviously, but still. Mostly my reactions involved squeeing a lot over NEVILLE and LUNA and SEAMUS and MCGONAGALL, who were far and away my favorites. Neville and McGonagall in particular, oh my hearts. The rest was fine. I have nothing particularly interesting to say. I did tear up a bit at Remus, because, well, REMUS, but the movies have given him roughly fuck-all to do since PoA. Oh, well.

Captain America...well, it was a perfectly acceptable movie? I mean, there was nothing wrong with it. I just find Steve Rogers to be a deadly dull character. He's perfectly nice! He's a good guy! He just bores me to tears. I liked Bucky, what little we saw of him. Agent Carter had some spunk, I liked her, too. And I got really excited about LOOK IT'S BUCK COMPTON HI COMPTON WHAT IS THAT THING ON YOUR FACE OMG. But yeah. All the fighting and explosions don't do much for me unless they're either really new and cool (the shifting gravity fight in Inception, for example) or I'm emotionally invested in the characters, so the last half hour or so were...really boring for me. Which, sorry Steve, but eh. (I'm not a huge fan of Thor, but he was surrounded by lots of quirky characters, which kept me interested; and Thor himself had a decent sense of humor, at least. Even Steve's wisecracks are just generic wholesome all-American action hero.)

This is probably why I will always prefer the X-Men to the Avengers. Quirky multi-layered morally gray characters! Teams! Female characters who don't just exist to be the love interest! At least the Avengers movie itself will have Tony Stark and Nick Fury, who make everything at least 100% better. Until then, my Marvelverse loyalties remain firmly in the X-Men camp.

In other news, yesterday the cops pulled me over for driving 30mph in a 25 zone. Which, what? I don't understand. My life, ladies and gentlemen. (I got off with a written warning, since I don't have any previous violations on record and seriously, 5mph over the speed limit? Seriously?)

I have no words for the situation in the UK right now, so I'm not even going to try. Anyone in London/Birmingham/Liverpool/Manchester/wherever else the riots have spread...be safe, okay? ♥
