NEW MEME. Because my brain is fried, and it's that kind of evening. Yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] tardis_stowaway:

Choose fifteen characters. Then put your playlist on shuffle. Your first song with lyrics is your first character, and so on. For each song, choose lyrics that resonate with the corresponding character.

For the record, I have a LOT of Broadway shows in iTunes, so there will likely be a lot of really difficult to manage lyric-to-character matches.

1. Charles Xavier (X-Men)
2. Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
3. Abbie Mills (Sleepy Hollow)
4. Joan Watson (Elementary)
5. Spike (Buffy)
6. Zoe Washburne (Firefly)
7. CJ Cregg (West Wing)
8. Pepper Potts (MCU)
9. Charles Gunn (Angel)
10. Dana Scully (X-Files)
11. Zuko (A:tLA)
12. Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
13. Alanna of Trebond (Tortall)
14. Don Scripps (History Boys)
15. Remus Lupin (Harry Potter)

1. Charles Xavier: "The Night That Goldman Spoke At Union Square" - Ragtime, the musical, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
This is a surprisingly good Charles song, actually, because it's all about being moved by one person speaking for justice and equality. (Although it might be even more appropriate for Erik.) Hard to pick out a good set of lyrics specifically, though.

She was speaking loud and fast
Through a haze of noise and heat
And the smell of sweat and anger in the air.
The police were standing by
But the crowd was on its feet

2. Martha Jones: "Come Rain Or Come Shine", Sarah Vaughan
Oooh, not bad. This is like early S3 Martha.

I guess when you met me,
It was just one of those things.
But don't ever bet me
Cause I'm gonna be true
If you'll let me.

3. Abbie Mills: "Woman's Realm", Belle & Sebastian
Um. Not particularly anything.

She met a boy and at the summer's end
She said she'd had enough of playing games

4. Joan Watson: "Tomorrow Never Knows", The Beatles
Again, what? I mean, on a sort of philosophical level, I guess this could be Joan accepting her new life with Sherlock. But that's a bit of a stretch.

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

5. Spike: "Bachelorette", Björk
...huh, actually, not a bad fit for Love's Bitch.

I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder hand
I'm the branch that you break

6. Zoe Washburne: "Houdini and the Girl", Tom McRae
Apart from the fact that I can only ever hear this as a Charles&Raven song...

She says I've been under the water
I've been under the ground
And honey, one thing's certain
I'll never take that bow

7. CJ Cregg: "Clear the Area", Imogen Heap
Now THIS is more of a Zoe song. But it does feel a bit like CJ's constant crisis management, keeping the spin going for the press while everything implodes in the West Wing.

You find your way back down
And I'll keep the area clear

8. Pepper Potts: "Little Sister", Rufus Wainwright
I am not thrilled with the perceptive powers of my iTunes shuffle right now.

Still putting your best foot forward
Madame didn't stack the cupboard ended up like Mother Hubbard
Ave, but hey, history is still a game
So complain have no shame and remember that round one has just been played

9. Charles Gunn: "I Can't Stay", the Killers
This kind of reflects the loss of direction the whole Angel Investigations team suffered repeatedly throughout the show, I guess.

In the dark, for a while now
I can't stay very far
I can't stay much longer
Riding my decision home

10. Dana Scully: "Defying Gravity", Wicked, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz
OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap

11. Zuko: "Song for the Asking", Simon & Garfunkel
N'awwww, Zuko.

This is my tune for the taking
Take it, don't turn away
I've been waiting all my life

12. Tyrion Lannister: "The Bitch of Living", Spring Awakening, lyrics by Steven Sater
PREACH.

It's like just kiss some ass, man
Then you can screw 'em all

13. Alanna of Trebond: "Packing for the Crash", Tom McRae
If only there were a live-action version of this series, I would totally make an Alanna vid to this song.

Solid walls will crack tonight
Solid walls are gonna fall down
And this is not any golden age we've lost

14. Don Scripps: "Drought", Vienna Teng
...Scripps is quite possibly the character in History Boys least suited to this song. This should be a Posner or Irwin or Hector song. It could even be a very cynical Dakin song. But Scripps? I mean, it's not bad for my headcanon!Scripps, but as written...? Not so much. But I like this one lyric for him:

Once I knew myself
And with knowing came love
I would know love again if I had faith enough

15. Remus Lupin: "Sunrise, Sunset" - Fiddler on the Roof, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
Fuck everything. I didn't need my heart or anything like that.

Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears
