I'm only 20 minutes into the last episode of Sherlock S3 (and, yes, late to the party), but I had to pause to say -- I have never been quite so squicked by a relationship as I am by Sherlock/Janine, to the point where I'm having trouble watching the episode. John's reactions to it are pretty much the only things keeping me going at this point. I'm not angry or offended or anything like that, but it just feels so WRONG to me. (I mean, I haven't been spoiled for anything, but I'm pretty sure this is all an act somehow. EVEN SO.) It's not entirely the thought of Sherlock sleeping with a woman -- I'm fine with Sherlock/Irene, in theory, and I'd be all over Sherlock/John/Mary as a threesome -- although I do headcanon Sherlock pretty strongly as either queer or asexual, so it does wig me out a bit in a way that John and his string of girlfriends never do. But it's the way he ACTS with her. UGH IT'S SO WRONG. Sherlock sleeping with Janine, sure, she's hot and interesting. But letting her call him "Sher"? "Call me later"? All the normal flirting/dating games? What the fuck? I'd be just as squicked to see him and John in that sort of relationship.
Okay, the more I write it out, the surer I am that I should just watch the rest of the episode already, because he's clearly putting on an act of some kind, but still. It's hitting my embarrassment squick super hard right now. And I was already bothered by the creepy molestation of Lindsay Duncan. Can Moffat just not write women ever again? (Except Mary. Mary's lovely. Of course, she's also fulfilling Moffat's dream of what all women really want -- marriage and babies -- so it makes sense he's actually written her sympathetically.)
...oh, suddenly I get why this squicks me so much. Because that's NOT Sherlock in a relationship, that's him faking a relationship, which means he's using the hell out of Janine and abusing her trust, and THAT'S what's making me so fucking uncomfortable. I hope she's in on this somehow, it'd be the only way to redeem this for me. UGH UGH UGH.
ETA: Oh, okay, so that's why he's using Janine. STILL UGH. I am glad that John is having the entirely appropriate reaction to this.
ETA2: I should probably shut up until I've finished watching the episode, shouldn't I? So much for sympathetic Mary. (Although, I'm 100% on board with seeing where this new twist takes us.)
