Oh, what the hey.

All but one of my books reside in my bookshelf, and I'm certainly not gonna list the first lines of every book I own. So I just chose my favorites.
Book I'm currently reading: Going to work was the same everywhere, and the changeover from Marxism-Leninism to Chaos-Capitalism hadn't changed matters much -- well, maybe things were now a little worse. (The Bear and the Dragon, by Tom Clancy)
Next book on list of Things To Read: My legal name is Alexander Perchov. But all of my friends dub me Alex, because that is a more flaccid-to-utter version of my legal name. Mother dubs me Alexi-stop-speening-me!, because I am always spleening her... (Everything is Illiminated, by Jonathan Safran Foer)
Favorites:
"I've watched through his eyes, I've listened through his ears, and I tell you he's the one." (Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card)
Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams)
Lorsque j'avais six ans j'ai vu, une fois, une magnifique image, dans un livre sur la Forêt Vierge qui s'appelait "Histoires Vécues." (Le Petit Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry)
This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it. (The Princess bride, by William Goldman)
Amerigo Bonasera sat in New York Criminal Court Number 3 and waited for justice; vengeance on the men who had so cruelly hurt his daughter, who had tried to dishonor her. (the Godfather, by Mario Puzo)
Lyra and her daemon moved through the darkening hall, taking care to keep to one side, out of sight of the kitchen. (The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman)
Linderwall was a large kingdom, just east of the Mountains of Morning, where philosophers were highly respected and the number five was fashionable. (Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede)
It was love at first sight. The first time Yossarian saw the chaplain he fell madly in love with him. (Catch-22, by Joseph Heller)
"Take that fucking Walkman off, get your arse in here and show me how I do an all-staff e-mail." (e, by Matt Beaumont)
And will someone please tell me why I am now beta-ing a Viggorli? This is really not my pairing...
