Sounds like everyone I know fannishly in Sandy's path have come through all right. NYC is restoring very limited subway service tomorrow; it'd still be too much of a pain in the ass to try to make my way back to my apartment in Brooklyn, since no trains are running there and the traffic over the bridges has been horrific, so I remain on my parents' couch. At least we never lost power. Work has been closed all week; tomorrow night's show has been canceled, though the rest of the weekend's shows are TBD, so I'm just kind of waiting for some kind of certainty about anything.
To pass the time, my parents and I have been spending a great deal of time with Netflix, and they've gotten me hooked on the BBC series MI:5 (or Spooks, in the UK). It's...very addictive. And in the continuing tradition of there only being twelve actors in all of Britain, I've been trying to keep up a headcount on all the familiar faces episode by episode. I'm all of five episodes into the first series, and already we've had: Mr. Darcy as the lead MI:5 agent, Romey Sullivan (Queer As Folk UK) as his girlfriend, and guest stars including Rupert Giles (BtVS), Dr. Greg House (House MD), Reverend Golightly (the guy who's actually a giant alien wasp in Doctor Who's "The Unicorn and the Wasp"), Amycus Carrow (HP; also shows up in Game of Thrones), Toshiko Sato (Torchwood - OMG TOSH I SQUEALED SO LOUDLY), and the Prime Minister in Torchwood: Children of Earth. This is all within the first five episodes. I realize that I have a kind of weird memory for faces of random character actors, but seriously, this is kind of ridiculous. ALL OF THE FANDOMS IN ONE SHOW. ALL OF THEM.
Also it's a show about spies, so basically I stood no chance whatsoever from the beginning. I really don't have the free time for a new fandom right now, nor did I desire one, but...dammit. Ten seasons? I am so fucked.
(I don't actually think I'll be sucked into any actual fandom activity for this -- it's not the sort of genre that generally leaves me with a burning need for fic, canon's sufficient. Here's hoping, anyway.)
