Saw the Narnia movie. I give it a resounding meh. It was a pretty good adaptation of a mediocre story. Don't get me wrong, I used to love the Narnia books -- or, well, I loved the first three, but Lewis lost me with 'Silver Chair' and never won me back, although I read all the way through the rest. They're pretty good kids' books, especially before you're old enough to catch the allegory. But they really don't stand the test of time. Hell, my old 'young adult' fantasy series still grab me more than the Narnia books. Ah, well.

One thing I did like in the movie was the family dynamic between the four kids. Good stuff, that. And christ but Peter was hot. Please don't tell me how old the actor is; I'd rather go on in blissful ignorance of exactly how pervy I am.

That sounds teh lamez0rz...however, I can't say I'm surprised as I never thought of Narnia as a particularly thrilling bit of children's writing. Lewis was a better theologian.

I haven't seen the movie yet, though I probably will. I read the books several times as a kid, but couldn't manage them more recently. I enjoyed them more before I understood the religious themes.

The actor who plays Peter is 18 - totally legal!

It's worth seeing, if only for nostalgia purposes. The movie itself is decent; I just think t he source material is dragging it down. Which is weird, for movies based on books.

Ahahaha I win!

But, but....Mr Tumnus! He's so perfect! And hot!

I loved that book growing up. The others not as much, but this particular one I just adored, and read over and over again. I tried to read it again after I saw the movie, for the first time in many years, and couldn't quite get through it. It seemed kind of...hmm...superficial? Or maybe I was so disillusioned when someone pointed out the allegory to me that I can't get back to how I was about it before. Who knows. But oh, I loved the movie. :)

I tried to read it again recently too, and just couldn't. The prose was so insufferable! But I lovedlovedloved the books when I was younger -- or rather, the ones I could get through. The Silver Chair, Prince Caspian and... there was one other I just couldn't get into. Magician's Nephew, LW&W and The Last Battle were always my favorites, though Dawn Treader was none too shabby.

It might just be something about that group of writers, though: I'm the heretical Rings fan who doesn't like Tolkien himself.

Heh. I do love my Tolkien, but, er, I think Peter Jackson is the better storyteller.

I certainly adored the book when I was a kid, but lately it seems, yeah, superficial. It just pales in comparison to the other literature out there. Good children's lit holds up; this doesn't.

And I did enjoy the movie. But I think its weaknesses are the book's weaknesses, and that's really too bad.

No worries, William Mosley (the kid that plays Peter) is actually legal. Because, yeah, I was perving over him, too. *grins*

But a resounding yes with you on the rest. I loved the movie as much as I could, but it's just not a thrilling story, really. But oh, the 4 kids & Mr. Tumnus ruled like ruling things. *g*

Oh, I did love the kids, and their very realistic sibling relationships. And Tumnus was, as so many have said, disturbingly hot. O_o
