Saw the Narnia movie. I give it a resounding meh. It was a pretty good adaptation of a mediocre story. Don't get me wrong, I used to love the Narnia books -- or, well, I loved the first three, but Lewis lost me with 'Silver Chair' and never won me back, although I read all the way through the rest. They're pretty good kids' books, especially before you're old enough to catch the allegory. But they really don't stand the test of time. Hell, my old 'young adult' fantasy series still grab me more than the Narnia books. Ah, well.

One thing I did like in the movie was the family dynamic between the four kids. Good stuff, that. And christ but Peter was hot. Please don't tell me how old the actor is; I'd rather go on in blissful ignorance of exactly how pervy I am.

I tried to read it again recently too, and just couldn't. The prose was so insufferable! But I lovedlovedloved the books when I was younger -- or rather, the ones I could get through. The Silver Chair, Prince Caspian and... there was one other I just couldn't get into. Magician's Nephew, LW&W and The Last Battle were always my favorites, though Dawn Treader was none too shabby.

It might just be something about that group of writers, though: I'm the heretical Rings fan who doesn't like Tolkien himself.

Heh. I do love my Tolkien, but, er, I think Peter Jackson is the better storyteller.
