Saw Golden Compass last night with [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes. Liked it very much indeed, although I wish they hadn't rushed from one plot point to the next so damn quickly.

But it all put me into a very HDMish mindset, and I'm curious about something. At the end of the books, when Will returns to his own world, of course he's got a daemon of his own. So can everyone in his world now see his daemon? Granted, she can be separated from him, so it's not like he has to have this cat following at his heels every second of every day, but still.

What do you guys think?

It deals with that, I believe? When Serafina teaches Mary how to see daemons, I figured that any daemon, whether corporeal or not, is going to be invisible in Will's world, maybe? Glad to hear the film's good, I'm getting very excited about seeing it tomorrow!

For Mary, yes, because her daemon never did take on proper form outside of her. But she could see Kirjava as soon as she was torn out of Will. And Will could always see Pan, and he glimpsed Sir Charles' snake daemon in our world.

Man I'm due for a reread!

Hmm, that's interesting, then. I guess he'd end up being some kind of crazy cat man, hee.

Yeah, it's weird. I always sort of assumed that of course no one would be able to see Kirjava, but looking more closely, I'm just not sure.

Hmm, I assumed that he could see her but no one else would, but now that you bring it up, I'm no longer sure. ::ponders::

As it has been pointed out to me, Serafina does say that no one else in our world can see Will's or Mary's daemons. I totally missed that before.

I think that Serafina says that others will not be able to see either Mary's or Will's daemons. Probably because they're both our-world natives.

Yes! Now that I've gone back to look for it, you're right, she does tell them that. Well remembered. :)

I reread them a few weeks ago, in the wake of posts on [livejournal.com profile] atheism about the boycott.
