Here we go. The most obvious song&fandom combination in the history of vidding, probably.

LYRICS:
It started with a low light
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
It left a strange impression in my head
You know that I was hoping
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind
But when they cut me open
I guess I changed my mind
And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
Cause they're calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
Disregarding the bombs and satellites
That was the turning point
That was one lonely night
The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
It's all in your mind
Now I'm back at home and
I’m looking forward to this life I live
You know it's going to haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give
You think you might cross over
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over
Before you make that leap
And you know I'm fine, but I hear those voices at night
Sometimes, they justify my claim
And the public don’t dwell on my transmission
Cause It wasn’t televised
But it was the turning point
O what a lonely night
The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
It's all in your mind
The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream makers's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
It's all in your mind
My global position systems are vocally addressed
They say the Nile used to run from east to west
They say the Nile used to run from east to west
I'm fine,
but I hear those voices at night
Sometimes...
The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
It's all in your mind
The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
It's all in your mind
It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind

Date: 2009-11-06 10:38 pm (UTC)I LOVED the editing in this. Your choice of clips was impeccable. I like the very literal interpretation of a lot of it - 'ripped me from my bed', 'took my blood type' (and especially, 'left a strange impression in my head' - good work with that one). I love the comparison between Doctor Who and Torchwood here, too; all of the clips interwoven to show the similarities. Very clever.
High points:
-"That was the turning point, that was one lonely night" was great. Really smart, using the whole Resurrection thing as the 'turning point'.
-So was "now I'm back at home". Awesome. Great, great choice there.
-The "transmission" thing was excellent.
-The breakdown was freaking amazing. ("I'm fine, but I hear those voices at night, sometimes...") That was just insane amounts of clever.
-Aaand the kissing montage didn't hurt.
-Aaand the smiling montage almost undid me the second time round. Completely adorable. Tears in my eyes from the sheer cute.
It's lovely to see such an awesome, positive video when a lot of people people are focusing on the whole We're Sad, Wah end of the fandom. I love this kind of stuff. Really well done.

...yeah, I planned on making this vid a LOT darker, but I guess I needed a bit more joy in fandom lately, so. I'm glad that worked for you!

Date: 2009-11-07 12:23 am (UTC)Loved all the running, the kisses and the fact that every character got included. Nice to see Nine in there and Owen as there my favourites. I love the Journey's End moment when we got to see the Tardis console being manned properly, such a lovely moment.
Bookmarked for rewatching.

Date: 2009-11-07 07:03 am (UTC)I love the way you weave together the major characters of Who and Torchwood, emphasizing the common story of those who are called away from ordinary life by the spaceman, whether he's the Doctor or Jack, and enter into a life that is often frightening and tragic, but can also be genuinely fantastic.
When the JE clip of the Doctor taking Donna's memories, I was sufficiently into the video that gasped out loud. I really liked the montage of places towards the end a variety of marvelous places from the destruction of the Earth to Cardiff.
Excellent job working with the lyrics throughout. I also noticed the strong sense of motion in this vid, which makes it exciting to watch. Sometimes even the obvious ideas are well worth pursuing.

Oh, I'm very glad that worked for you. I kept going back and reediting bits of this with the thought of "well, why only use three different clips in this bit when I can fit in five instead?" So, yes, thank you. :)

Date: 2009-11-07 09:08 pm (UTC)This is so beautiful and poignant and painful and hopeful, all in turns, which is what I think made it so amazing. The mood of the clips and the memories attached to those scenes fit so perfectly with the tone of the music.

Thank you so much!

Date: 2009-11-08 05:27 pm (UTC)The beginning is just perfect, because I've always seen the parallels between Rose and Gwen, although I especially liked the regeneration/coming back to life clips being put together. Ditto the Doctor & Jack falling - I've not seen those clips together before, which is odd.
Too many things to mention, although *especially* adored your choice for They said the Nile used to run from east to west! :) Oh and at the end, the clip of [Rose & the Doctor on] random alien planet with flying alien, cutting to Cardiff and the pterodactyl... That's my two shows all summed up, right there.
Gorgeous work! *goes away to re-watch again and again*

Date: 2009-11-09 06:11 am (UTC)That all being said, I'm commenting on this! That's progress, right?
I watched this twice in a row. The first time, I was really taken in by the clips and the motion and the parallels and my own intense affection for these characters.
Then I read the lyrics. And I had to watch it again.
Because... wow. I mean, it's still a vid that fills me with glee, even knowing the words, but it changes my interpretation of the video slightly in the best possible way. Being unfamiliar with the song, I missed that subtle bit in the first verse with "I changed my mind" and the implication that the shiny wonderfulness of being pulled in by The Doctor (and Jack!) wears off, but then you're stuck and it's not always going to be wonderful. Everything that comes after seems a little more intense after hearing that.
Anyway, this was awesome and I downloaded it for my vids folder. Great job!

Date: 2009-11-09 01:40 pm (UTC)The choice of clips, the timing, the bringing together of those parallel moments was just so awesome. Sheer brilliance.
I'm trying to get my fannish glee back at the moment, and am going to download this to keep for next time I lose it.
Thank you.
