So I decided that because I am so very eloquent and verbose about the Sondheim, I should be able to write this 10-15 page bastard in a ridiculously short amount of time. I gathered my quotes beforehand, but as for the actual writing...well, I'm examining a theme that runs through the shows Follies, A Little Night Music, and Pacific Overtures (yes, there IS a connecting thread, aside from the fact that they were written one after another in that order). So. I decided to listen to the soundtracks of each in order, and write the entirety of each show's portion of the paper in the time it takes to listen to the soundtrack.

I just wrote SIX pages about Follies by the end of Sally's Folly. So, like, in under 90 minutes. HA.

On to A Little Night Music!

ETA: LNM done in under an hour. Hot damn I'm good. NEXT!

Social Sciences: defeated yesterday c. 4pm
Physics: soundly trounced today c. 2:35 pm
American Musical Theater: er...yeah, that. Right.

But seriously. NO MORE PHYSICS EVER. Thank god. And that final was a lot easier than the midterm.

Onward, skank ho!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (look right through me)
I've reached that point in the paper, roughly four pages in, when I realize that everything I've written is utter crap, and I've lost the thread of my argument, and I'm more than halfway through but the rest of the way seems interminable, and I fail at life in general.

And then I remember that I don't care.

And so I slog on, and pity the poor professor who has to read this thing when I'm done.

Alas.

I should have known better than to be all organized on this dratted paper. Because by picking all my quotes ahead of time, and organizing them into categories, and then organizing the categories to form a logical outline of the paper...well, let's just say that it made me feel productive.

And me feeling productive is very very bad, because it means that I then think, wow, look how productive I've been, I can stop now. And then I forget the crucial fact that my paper actually needs to be written.

Intelligent, studious part of brain: Look! It's 2pm! You're half an hour late for Physics! Run!
Lazy bum part of brain: Um. Internet. Shiny. Yeah.
Intelligent, studious part of brain: YOU COULD BE IN CLASS FOR AN HOUR!
Lazy bum part of brain: I could take a nap for an hour.
Intelligent, studious part of brain: ...okay, you may have a point there.

Physics never stood a chance. Then again, it never does, really.

SO THERE.

EAT IT, DURKHEIM.

I have made essay. It is not fabulous, but we are allowed to rewrite it and improve the grade later. Therefore, I am done. Only nine hours after I technically began, and with many distractions and interruptions in between. So neener to you, Social Sciences course. Or something. Yeah.

...it is SO bedtime. *collapses*

ETA: The reason I feel so triumphantly productive, in spite of all the time I wasted? For the first 2.5 pages of this essay, I was writing at the pace of approx. 2hrs 24min / page. The last four pages? 20min / page. So I really did hit a stride of sorts. (Granted, this doesn't take into account the fact that I compiled all my quotations from the text in that first chunk of time. But still.)

You know, my inability to focus on writing this paper may prove to be a prob-- oooh, look, shiny!

It's going to be a long night.

Today shall henceforth be cancelled.

I slept through my first class, spent all of my second class doing the problem set due in it, only to arrive ten minutes after the class ended with my professor gone and the finished problem set with nowhere to go, all of which made me late for my third class.

Not. My. Day.

I found a little Lotrips bunny, though. That's something.

You know what would be awesome? To go to this university, and go to all the classes and everything, and do readings and such for class, but never have any actual written work. Yeah, that would rock my socks.

Also, to never ever ever have Physics problem sets. Even though they're the only reason I actually learn Physics, since I sleep through the lectures. But still. Or, you know, to not have a science requirement for graduation for THEATER MAJORS.

Hi. I hate homework.

I completely forgot about birthdays for the entire month of December. But new year, new time to do stuff like check the bday list, etc.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake and Happy Slightly Belated Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] westmoon! Hope the days have been thoroughly splendid for the both of you!

In other news, the afternoon stretches before me. Shall I go to the Film Studies Center and watch Showboat for my musical theater class, or just play Sims 2 all day?

...there never really was a choice, was there? *loads Sims 2*

And in theater-type stuff, didn't get into either of the big shows, but I did get into a workshop. Which is...a bit disappointing, but will probably work out for the best, since I have a heavy courseload this quarter and several things to apply for, and a lighter time commitment theater-wise should keep me a little saner. Ah, well.

I now know what my SOSC paper is going to be about! This is a crucial and oft-overlooked step to writing papers, and I feel quite pleased to have accomplished it in so short a time. I even transcribed relevant quotes. In fact, two whole pages worth of relevant quotes from one of my sources are sitting on my screen, just waiting to be transformed into a brilliant and insightful essay!

...eh, they can wait a little longer.

No, not Christmas. FINALS WEEK!

Which means that I have a paper due on Wednesday and an exam tomorrow, which means that YOU lucky people get to watch me procrastinate! Yay!

...*headdesk*...
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (so sleepy)
Today so far: 4 hrs work, 1.5 hrs class, 1 hr studying for Physics quiz, 1 hr working out light cues, 30 min Physics quiz which was on the ONE problem on last week's problem set that I didn't understand so I bombed it, 3 hrs rehearsal with added stress of other people watching omgwtf. Still up: Physics problem set, 100 pages Social Sciences reading.

This has been the general trend for the past week.

Okay, I am now officially burned out. Thanksgiving break can't come soon enough.

d'oh.

Dear kaydee,
If you skip Physics class in order to write up the problem set due at the end of class, then you should spend that time actually writing up the problem set, not browsing the internet.
You moron.
Yours in procrastination,
kaydee

So, my computer, having been reformatted, is temporarily usable, but there's definitely broken hardware involved, and I need to send it in to Dell to be fixed. ARGH. Fortunately, I can at least use it to write my paper due tomorrow. But now that I have my laptop back and CAN write said paper, I realize that I don't fucking understand Marx. Marx SUCKS. My paper will also suck, once it's finished sometime early tomorrow morning.

This was a really poorly written entry, but I don't care. Yay procrastination.

Physics discussion section at 7 -- To go or not to go: that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of missing a theoretical pop quiz, or to take arms against my boring TA, and by opposing, enjoy that hour.

Seriously. I know that we're supposed to sometimes have quizzes in the discussion sections, but they never said anything about POP quizzes, nor has any mention been made of a possible quiz this week. Last week the TA just went over the problem set, but the prof isn't assigning our next one until tomorrow, so no problem set to go over. So what will the TA do this week -- practice problems, or pop quiz? Practice problems I can miss without the slightest twinge of guilt; quiz, should probably take. Goddamnit.

I have 5 minutes to make up my mind.

I'm typing from the computer lab in my dorm, as my laptop is currently lacking the software necessary to connect to the campus network here. Which means that my not-quite-finished Two Lines fic, which I e-mailed to myself, can't be accessed from my own bloody laptop, which means I doubt I'll be able to finish and post it by the 18th. Bah.

I'm crazy busy here, preparing for the freshmen's orientation week, and this is the first time I've even had a chance to check e-mail in two days. So, yeah, I probably won't be around much for a week or thereabouts, until all this madness calms down a bit. If anything important happens in your marvelous lives, tell me when I get back...!

Oh, and Happy belated birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] vissy and [livejournal.com profile] andraste_oz!

On an unrelated note, Happy [slightly belated] Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] versaphile! Hope it was awesome!

My ISHU 10300 final paper is pastede on yay.

It's supposed to be 5-6 pages, 1.5 spaced, yadda yadda yadda, and I have 5 pages, but I really don't think I'm done yet, because I'm not happy.

This may well be the crappiest crap I've ever crapped.

On the other hand, this is the last thing that stands between me and summer vacation, so I'm not entirely sure I care...

From the new 2004-2006 course guide:
HIST 29900. Tolkien: Medieval and Modern. J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular works of imaginative literature of the twentieth century. This course seeks to understand its appeal by situating Tolkien's creation within the context of its medieval sources and modern parallels. Possible themes include the nature of history and its relationship to story, the activity of creation and its relationship to language, and the interaction between the world of "faerie" and religious belief. Students must read The Lord of the Rings trilogy before the first day of class. Spring, 2005.

Is it next spring yet?! *bounces*
