Haven't had time to check DW/LJ since Wednesday. Have given up on Tumblr entirely at the moment. Starting to seriously worry about how I will manage to deal with all my holiday exchange fics/vids just based on sheer lack of time, although I realize that the festival I'm stage managing closes tonight so I'll at least have weekends back. Despise this temp job quite a lot. I've actually developed a twitch in my eye that's lasted for three solid days now, and jesus christ it's annoying. Bah feh etc.

But on Thurs night I went over to a friend's and we watched "Kinky Boots" and "Attack the Block", both of which were awesome and I know I'm the last person to have seen them but whatever, and there was an unanticipated Nick Frost theme going on there so that was amusing. And then last night I went to see Thor 2 and I don't have any deep thinky thoughts at the moment but I will say that spoilers )

Halloween! I haven't dressed up for Halloween in many years, but that was before I joined the Gay Geeks, so I foresee a lot more costume crap in the future. We marched in the NYC Halloween Parade as the Avengers, and it was awesome. Except we care more about geeky comic book characters than mainstream Avengers, so we only had one of the movie!team -- Captain America -- and the rest of us were somewhat more obscure. Ant Man (not so obscure), the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Dr. Strange, Wonder Man, Jarvis, Hulkling, Wiccan, and Kate Bishop, and I'm probably forgetting some (and we did have some non-Avengers in the group -- an awesome Joker and genderbent Harley Quinn, for starters), but we got very good at coordinating photo poses along the parade route whenever one of us yelled "Assemble!" (and then, of course, "Disassemble!"). I know we were on TV at some point, posing.

I went as Kate Bishop (Young Avengers' Hawkeye), specifically from the cover of Hawkeye vol 9. photos! )

And now, more meme.

12. What's inside your fridge?
Um... I have two roommates, so this is all three of us. Ahem: Mountain Dew, soy milk, 3 loaves of sliced bread, lots of eggs, hummus, butter, many yogurts, a couple of tupperwares with leftovers, several packets of shredded cheese, ketchup and other basic condiments, grape jelly, several varieties of salad dressing, tomato sauce, soy sauce, pickles, applesauce, a couple of cans of hard cider, radishes, apples, carrots.

all the prompts )

huh.

So I'm drunk posting now, but I needed to say that I went to the Gay Geeks Halloween party at my favorite gay bar tonight, and on a whim said sure, I'll take a number to participate in the costume contest because why the fuck not even though some of these costumes obviously involved a HELL of a lot more construction and prep than mine, and it was an awesome party.

And then I won 2nd place in the contest -- among over 30 contestants -- for my Kate Bishop costume. Which involved some free drink tickets, Breaking Bad dolls (which I don't watch, but maybe now I will), and a gift certificate to Midtown Comics.

So I'm feeling pretty awesome right now. 2nd place in a geeky costume contest! And I'm not a cosplayer or anything! People must have been super drunk.

I know there were pics taken, and I'll probably post them at some point. Or wait until actual Halloween, because I'm marching in the NYC Halloween Parade with the rest of the group (Avengers-themed, hence Kate Bishop), and for that I'll have bow and quiver as well, which I didn't want to bring along to a crowded bar.

And now I should probably sleep because I have three shows to run tomorrow plus I'm one of the panelists for a panel about theater tech at 11am WOW I'm gonna be super tired and a little hungover.

Today was my day off, so I spent it applying for nine different jobs. Which I feel is fairly productive considering I've been wearing my pajamas all day. \o/ ?

And last night I again stayed up until 3am putting together a cast swap: Avengers full genderswap on Tumblr. Now with like 200% more chicks! )

HULK SMASH.

I got less than three hours of sleep last night. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. With spoilers, obvs. )

Had a low-grade headache all day yesterday, which made me feel cranky and out-of-sorts, so when I got home I curled up in bed with some fic to read and then I opened my eyes again and it was nearly midnight. Um. So I rolled over and went back to sleep and didn't get up until my alarm went off at 6:30am this morning. Which means that I slept for more than twelve hours.

On the plus side, I feel really well-rested today. Which is good, because I'm going to the midnight showing of the Avengers, so it's not like I'm going to be getting any sleep tonight.

Avengers! I'm still primarily an X-Men girl, but I'm pretty darn excited for this, especially since everyone who's seen it already seems to be raving about it. (Which is also why I decided to just give in and see the midnight showing despite how sleep-deprived and miserable it will make work tomorrow -- I've already been accidentally spoiled on two major things I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE SPOILED ABOUT, and that'll only get worse once it finally opens in the US.) So, yeah, meeting up with a group of fen in Silver Spring to go see, that should be awesome.

Super frustrated with myself on the writing front. I managed all of 1000 words of Reversebang over the weekend, and it's all pretty much crap and I don't know how to make it not crap. I'm tempted to scrap everything and start from scratch, but I barely have any ideas for this fic at all, and I don't know where else to go with it. The artwork is so gorgeous, seriously, but my brain is just not fucking cooperating. I'm too stubborn to drop out, but I have to produce a rough draft in three weeks, and I'm terrified that it will just be completely awful. UGH.

...and that's how I get into the sort of toxic headspace where I shut down and sleep for twelve hours straight to avoid my own brain.

I am now irrationally convinced that Riley Finn left Sunnydale because he was recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. Not the Avengers Initiative, but, y'know, I'm pretty sure he's done his fair share of black ops with Agent Barton.

Fortunately, I don't like Riley enough to actually write that fic. But pondering it amuses me greatly.

Interesting blog post linked on my f-list today: Is Thor a feminist movie? (Yes). I thought Thor was an okay movie -- it kept me entertained, but I don't feel particularly fannish about it -- but the one thing that really did strike me was how good it was with the women. (Like the post mentioned, a superhero movie that passes the Bechdel test in the first five minutes? How often does that happen?) My biggest gripe with the Avengers movieverse as a whole is the overwhelming maleness of it -- kickass ladies like Pepper Potts, Jane Foster, or Peggy Carter aren't even going to show up in the Avengers movie, I guess because they're "just" the love interests and that would detract from all the manly bonding of Avengers Assemble! or some shit. (On the other hand, Joss Whedon tends to be pretty good with women -- not perfect by any means, but he tries -- so clearly I should withhold judgment until the movie is actually released. Maybe Black Widow will get an awesomely empowering storyline.) But Thor gives us Jane -- an incredibly smart, career-oriented, passionate woman who absolutely does not compromise her work or her desires for the hero; DARCY, whom I adore beyond all measure and is the sort of sarcastic sidekick who in ANY OTHER MOVIE would've been cast as male; and of course the Lady Sif, who kicks ass and takes names and refuses to allow any dude to take credit for her own awesomeness. And that's pretty fantastic.

I mean, I think it's fairly obvious where my own Marvelverse allegiances lie, but if anyone wants to rec me any good Darcy/ANYONE fics... ([personal profile] musesfool has written a couple of excellent ones, by the by -- Darcy/Steve and Darcy/Clint.)

...and now I kind of want to write Darcy/Sif. Shit.
