From TORN, RotK preview rumors. Remember how they stuck TTT footage on the end of FotR last year? Well, some substantiated (and unsubstantiated) hints of what we'll be seeing at the end of TTT. Starting in March? April? I'm not sure, but I might just spontaneously combust by then. Oh, yeah, and spoiler alert for that link (no shit, Sherlock).

Want. RotK. NOW, fuck it!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (NEENER!)
Scene: [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud and I are sitting in a movie theater, waiting for TTT to start and talking (loudly!) about slash and the "KISS HIM!" scene.

Two solemn-looking guys wearing yarmulkes sit right in front of us.

me: Uh-oh. Orthodox Jews? (please note that Lydia & I are both secular Jews. Our orthodox brethren are not always known for being gay-friendly)
Lydia: I guess.
me: Might not be slash-friendly. We're gonna yell "Kiss!" right in their ears.
Lydia: (not serious) Maybe they're gay. Look! They're sitting next to each other! They MUST be gay! ...eh, it probably means they're brothers.
me: Yeah.

Religious Guy #1 pulls out a rather well-known gay comic book, and Religious Guy #2 starts reading his issue of Gay NY (an actual, honest-to-goodness NYC gay/lesbian-interest newspaper).

me & Lydia: (look at each other and burst out laughing)

True story. Damn, I love this city!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (your MOM!)
So, yes, nothing new or exciting to add. TTT continues to kick my ass, and the last march of the Ents continues to make me bounce, and Evil!Frodo and Fierce!Merry continue to kill me dead, and so on. And, y'know, I like watching the LotR movies alone. Not all the time, but every now and then. But DAMMIT [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud, you evil evil girl! I actually had to clamp my hands over my mouth and bite my finger, HARD, to keep from shouting out ["What are we holding on to?"] "EACH OTHER!" and, of course, "KISS HIM!" Fucking hell. Lydia, LOOK what you've DONE to me! Argh.

...and next time I see it, I probably WILL shout the "Kiss him!" bit, in spite of myself. I'm a horrible, horrible audience member. Bah phooey.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (romeo & juliet)
Wow, I've been spamming a lot tonight. Ah, well. GIP! My icons go through phases -- Beatles, then Loreena McKennitt, then Monty Python, now Shakespeare. I'm a strange bird, what can I say? So, yeah, Rings-Thing.

What are your favorite moments in TTT? Specifically, and in general? What makes them your favorites--most moving, most emotional, most beautiful? Are they other than what you might have expected them to be, prior to seeing the movie?

Specifically? I love love love the Merry/Pippin moment, after the Entmoot, when Merry has completely given up, and it's dark and hopeless and heartwrenching. Especially for these two characters -- the lighthearted pranksters from the first movie -- showing the depth of the changes they've gone through. Oh, yeah, and the ending continues to kick my ass. From Gollum's final monologue to the "Follow me" to the last shot, I turn into a little puddle of GUH. My spine tingles, I swear.

In general, if it involves Theoden reciting poetry, I'm happy. Bernard Hill is incredible. Ditto to Grima and Gollum. Beautiful, beautiful. And there's a lot to be said for Dark!Frodo as well. I had no expectations when I came to see this movie -- things I was looking forward to, sure, but nothing specific. And now I am duly floored. Damn. Now I need to go see it again.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (your MOM!)
So, the Engrish strikes again. Good times, good times. But how can I get rid of those words, dammit? Screw the funny captions -- those are some QUALITY screencaps!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (and that's the news...)
First off (before I forget!), this week's Rings-Thing:

Of the characters who continued from FOTR, who did you think came off the best (as a character, not necessarily as a performance) in TTT? Did you think anyone got really short-changed? Did you favorite character(s) change from FOTR to TTT?

Response within. )

IN OTHER NEWS, I now officially have a play to direct for Brick. Rock on. Somehow, Ryder and I actually managed to agree on something (he's a wonderful person, but our tastes in movies/plays diverge a bit). Then spent the entire lunch period arguing with Nicola and Laura and Ms. Hollander about Brickness. We all chose different plays, but Nicola's and mine are apparently too similar. Causing conflict. Hmph. The one I chose is ten billion times better than the one she chose; she's just good friends with the writer. (The only other play Ryder and I agreed on was that Nicola's choice was crap.) But it all resolved itself, thankfully. So, have play. [livejournal.com profile] filmelder, it's Sam's play from last year, the one that sucked. He rewrote it, and it's actually GOOD this time. Belated realization: this is a musical. Or, at least, has one big and a few small musical numbers. Oh, shit, I have to teach my future cast members songs. Oh, SHIT, I have to come up with CHOREOGRAPHY. Remind me why I do this to myself?

Meh, I'm sure it'll be great. In spite of myself. Here we go!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (ride on)
::glances at clock:: Juuuust made it.

Of the new characters introduced in TTT, which is your favorite and why? What do you think of the characterizations and portrayals?

Does Gollum count as a new character? He ought to. I have already blathered on at great length about the wonderfulness that is Gollum. He was brilliantly done -- both by the CGI team and Andy Serkis. This wretched, wailing creature is absolutely captivating every moment he's on screen, especially during his little schizo monologues. Creepy, pathetic, and ultimately a powerfully sad character. And just when you really feel bad for the little guy, Gollum beats out Smeagol and sends shivers down your spine. I love the way he ends the movie -- yay for effective foreshadowing! Creeps. Me. Out.

Theoden was also wonderful, as were Eowyn and Grima. All acted to perfection -- I actually sympathized with Grima, what's up with that?! -- and I can't wait to see more of them. Um, could go on for a while about Bernard Hill in particular, but need to get some sleep tonight...
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (ride on)
This is the one TTT Oscar nom I'm really rooting for.
andy!
Because. Gollum. Come ON. Andy Serkis made that character work. He breathed life into it and really made us care about this pathetic, morally ambiguous creature. He is NOT an animation. Plus, the nomination of a CGI-ed character -- even if he didn't actually win -- would help revolutionize the Academy. Which seriously needs some revolutionizing. Now to work on the accepting-fantasy-as-a-credible-film-genre thing...
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (VERY interesting...)
Wow, been a while since I participated in this. Bad kaydee. So, this week's question.

For those who have read the books: Did the changes from book to screen bother
you more or less (or the same) in TTT vs. FOTR? Any TTT changes that you found
particularly distressing, or any that others are harping on that bother you
not at all?

The only change from book to screen that continues to piss me off involves both FotR and TTT. Um. Arwen. Yeah. Annoys the heck out of me, and I have little-to-no-interest in that storyline. Aside from that, all my nitpicks with the films were just that: nitpicks. Nothing major. So, I'd say both movies work out about equal on that score. The one thing that bugged me more about TTT was the lack of Merry and Pippin, and the way their story was dumbed down. More so than the others, I felt. Oh, well.

I've already gone on at great lengths about changes other people have been getting all nattered about. Faramir, the ending, blah dee blah. I don't think anyone needs my sound byte on all that again.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (just fucking kiss him!)
GIP! For [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud. If only the proper TTT scene had been screencapped, I'd be using that one instead.

You know what would be cool? Bernard Hill reciting poetry. Any poetry, really. He's just good at that. "Where is the horse and the rider..."

Is it me, or has there suddenly been an influx of better-than-decent new fics? Wow. Must be TTT's influence. Suits me! Oh, and for a dash of visual Dom/Lij goodness, check out [livejournal.com profile] undone27's LJ. Mmm.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (grey havens)
Dammit, I don't usually associate songs with fictional characters. I don't listen to a song and think, "Hey, that is SO Domlijah," or anything, because I hate being sappy and godawful like that.

So why is every friggin' Loreena McKennitt song reminding me of Frodo/Sam right now? Bah. Especially "Dante's Prayer" and "The Old Ways." Either of these could be the soundtrack for the Grey Havens. No, I'm serious.

I must be getting sentimental in my old age...
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (squee!)
TTT viewing #4. Every time I see it, it gets better! Gah. May have to reassess my decision that FotR was the better film. Because how much do I love TTT? THIS MUCH! Oh man oh man. The "Oh shit!" moments! Theoden's speeches! Fierce!Merry! Evil!Frodo! The ever-so-blatant Legolas/Aragorn love! Ents! Grima! Eowyn! Gollumgollumgollum! And, dude, I wanted to give Sam a hug. Like, twelve billion separate times. Am grooving on the Sean Astin. Well, I always did, but now I'm REALLY grooving on the Sean Astin. And the Frodo/Sam, of course, of course. And the ending continues to kick my ass. And, heck, I didn't even mind Arwen so much this time.

Even my MOTHER liked TTT. She thought FotR was "okay." Too long and boring. But this one, she likes. Will wonders never cease?

Must see again. Like, NOW. Would be good.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (hey jude)
...and maybe someday I'll be able to figure out why that line just popped into my head, seeing as I haven't listened to my Phantom of the Opera CD in, oh, years.

TTT viewing #3 was today (with lustworthy Physics lab partner, no less, although nothing happened, sigh). And it left me feeling all thoughtful and sad in a fandom-related way. Before I get into that, must note some TTT moments that really deserve mention. kickass TTT moments and such )

fandom-related musings, surprisingly not a rant at all )

Heads up!

For everyone with TTT quibbles -- and who doesn't have one or two? -- check out this interview with Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens. You may still hate the changes, but at least you can hear the script writers' POV. A couple of points worth noting:

that goshdarned ending )
the Faramir issue )
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (sleeping)
I need to see TTT again. Like, right this very instant. Just developed a bad craving for Fierce!Merry and Evil!Frodo. That's right, kaydee likes her Dom and Lij dark and angry and fierce and GUH. It's a very very good thing that Fierce!Merry and Evil!Frodo have no screentime together, or I would be reduced to a quivering puddle of lust. As it is, I'm merely a quivering blob of lust. Or, something. Yeah. RotK is going to kill me, I can already tell.

And, is it a bad sign that I'm already going nutso with anticipation of RotK spoilers? Like, squeeing and bibbling over the mere thought that in a few months, they might attach a RotK teaser trailer to the end of TTT, like the TTT trailer last year? Because. WANT. Augh!

Sleeeeeeep...
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (hey jude)
I've noticed three main issues people have had with TTT. They're interesting, because I wasn't offended by any of them. my random blather on the subject, which includes much spoiler-ness )
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (VERY interesting...)
Yup, it's official. I've reverted back to last year. I cannot be allowed out of the house with any sort of money in my pockets.

The supermarket? One lousy block away from my apartment. About halfway down said block, I came to the brilliant observation that I had about $20 in my wallet, and in less than ten minutes I could walk to the nearest movie theater and see TTT. It actually took me five solid minutes of internal struggle before I decided against it, and then only because I didn't want to take a bagful of groceries to the movie with me.

Someone is gonna have to lock me in my apartment, at least until February. Seriously. The first month is always the worst. I can't afford to spend every dollar I have on TTT. Really I can't.

...on another note, I've decided that FotR was the better movie. Which won't stop me from seeing TTT about twelve billion times, but still. I just don't think that TTT would have captured my attention the way FotR did. My cousins dragged me to FotR. I had no interest in the doings of hobbits and wizards and elves. I'd read the books, but remembered them as being slow and boring. And yet, a few days after watching FotR for the first time, I shelled over $10 to see it again, alone. And two days later, I dragged one of my own friends to go see it with me, again. So it goes. I would never have done this for TTT, not without my previously established obsession. The lure of the ring is strong, but for me, it's mainly left over from movie #1. And, yeah, this post had a point, which now is lost. Ah, well.

oh, man...

This thread is on crack. Also, it took me over an hour to read through it, and I'm only reading the parodies of authors I know. Still, good stuff: If LotR was written by [insert random author here]

Should really start that AP Hell paper...

I am zonked out of my mind. Haven't checked e-mail or LJ since Monday. Got two and a half hours of sleep last night. Need to crash, desperately. But, TTT notes, now. Spoilers? Oh, yes )
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (squee!)
Still havem't seen the full 16-minute spoiler clip, mutter mutter grumble grumble, but the Bag-End Inn posted the Merry/Pippin bits, which are the ones I'm most interested in anyway. brief rumination, with a minor spoiler alert, being the reason it's behind the tag )Okay, I'm already squeeing about a movie I haven't even seen...

Fangorn!

kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (dude)
TORN has a few clips from the WB special! Not the ten minutes of Dom/Billy hilarity, sadly, but they DO have the Fangorn forest clip, including some Billeh!commentary and Dom's beautiful, beautiful "mmm...bosoms" line. Spoiler alert. Lydia, this one's for you. ;)

Oh, and if there are any other NYC slashers out there, or at least anyone who's planning to be in NYC on the 17th/18th, talk to me! Please! A small group of pervy hobbit fanciers (including myself and [livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud) are going to one of the first midnight showings of TTT, and it would be awesome to coordinate theaters and meet other slashers! Come on, you know you want to...

I have given in to the lure of the One Spoiler, also known as this review. My own damn fault. But did you honestly expect me to resist? Fucking hell. Well, at least now I know how it ends. I was partly right, anyway. But, yeah, am having my doubts. I'm sure I'll love it when I see it, but right now I'm poking at it with the theoretical big stick.

::pokes TTT ending::

::eyes it warily::

If it twitches, I'm getting the hell out of here.
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (evil)
17 days until TTT comes out, and I'm already desperately impatient and lustfilled and whatnot for RotK. Well, hell. It's gonna be a loooong year...

Also, what with all the Karl and Dave and Miranda and whomever fans out there, I'd like to declare my personal TTT character allegiance:
brad!
It's all about the Brad Dourif, guys. Come on. Evil! Coolness! And, yeah, he was an awesome psycho on The X-Files, too. So he isn't "hot," per se. He's just...evilcoolness. Yeah.

::sighs::

It's a losing battle, I can tell.

::gasp::

kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (countdown)
Oh my god! Rings-Thing has returned!

OK, 'fess up: how many times did you see FOTR? Do you think you'll see TTT as many, more, or fewer times? Have you made any special plans regarding the movie's opening?

Um. Just to prove that there is truly something wrong with me -- I saw FotR 14 times in theaters. And once on Lydia's bootleg DVD. And once on TV in a hotel room. And several times on regular DVD. And twice on extended DVD. Okay, so I'm bloody well insane, so tell me something I don't know.

I probably won't see TTT as many times. It just won't have enough hobbits, and awesome as the nonhobbit stuff is sure to be, I will get bored by it after the 9th or 10th viewing. And...um...right, I'm insane, and for all I know I WILL see it 14 times, but for now let's pretend I'm normal.

Opening of TTT: here's me at the first midnight showing! originally, it was just s'posed to be me, Lydia, and Tash going (in our loverly hand-decorated Pervy Hobbit Fancier T-shirts), but apparently a bunch of other people from the Freak Hallway are jumping on the first-midnight-showing bandwagon. Mwah-hah-hah-hah!
kaydeefalls: blank with text: "white. a blank page or canvas. so many possibilities..." (hey dom)
...but. Extended DVD. Kicks my ass. Very, very hard. ::dies::

yes, we all know it rocks, so get on with it )
Shit. Have much schoolwork to do, and little time to do it in. Off we go.
